Default 2006 Civic

hey... a friend of mine has a new 2006 civic and it didn't come with a radio because he got the basic model... I just wanted to know what radio's or headunits would fit this civic because supposedly most aftermarket ones do not fit the new civic.... thanks... it's a fourdoor if that helps....haha...

The way I understand it is Metra is coming out with a kit that will allow you to install a standard single or double din HU into the car, but apparently you can get the dash trim piece that is used when you get the oem navigation system from Honda, swap it out for the one that is in the car now and you have your double din opening if his dash looks something like this now http://www.collegehillshonda.c...o.jpg
climate controls and radio and trim integrated, with the other trim it looks like this http://www.collegehillshonda.c...r.jpg I assume. 94

Yeah, that was a good decision... Buying a car without a radio (or speakers) to save money on the car, but now he's going to have to spend $200 on a dash kit, $20 on wires, (there's probably some new funky antenna connector on these new cars, too), $200 minimum for a good radio/cd player, PLUS speakers and speaker connectors... (figure $200 minimum)...

That's ~$640 to get tunes in that car.

Not my car, but I think I'd rather have the $5 or $10 a month factored into my car payment than having to come up with over $600 at once to get sound...

May have bought the base model to avoid the nasty Ivory color interior ....If I buy a white 06 Civic, it will be the base model because the LX does not come with gray interior

well this guy is basically used to driving a car w/o sound because he had a beat up tercel before... he got the base model because he figured that... people usually throw out or sell their stock radio's and get aftermarket ones anyway so he was going to find someone with an 06 swapping out their old on or getting an aftermarket one straight off.

you can put in the ex or lx radio

there is a guy that did a full write up on it
you need the surround from the dash trim off a navigation model, element cup din amongst other things
