Default trying to save a captiva blue...

hi. I started a build thread w/ this a loooong time ago, but a lot has changed since i picked up this 93 captive blue pearl hatch, so i figued i'd post up what has been done to this car in the 3 years i've had it so far. a little history about the car, i picked it up from a friend of mine, who's sister wrecked it. it sat in thier dad's garage for about 5 years until he decided to have it towed to the junkyard. fortunately for me, my friend gave me a quick call and asked if i was interested. at the time, i really wasn't, but he told me to give him $100 and he'll tow it to my house to get rid of it. so i figured, eh, can't really pass that up. so, here is what i got (hang on, there is a lot packed into this post!):

rebuilding time...

new front end...

rad support on, new fender, hood, radiator, intake, condensor...blah blah, all that stuff

how i drove it for about a year, decent paint, and no rust!

I was impressed (although not suprised...i mean its a honda) that the engine fired up relatively easy after not being turned over for 5 years! but, i figured it wouldn't last too long and sure enough at the worst time possible, the engine gave out. fortunatly again, i had just recently sold my integra to pay closing costs on a house i bought, and before i sold it i pulled the lsvtec i had built for it. so i decided to drop the ls/vtec i built for my integra in, and keep it boosted : )

before i started

the turd that blew up on me

empty bay

auto pedals yanked

auto gearbox and cables yanked

pedals in their new home

skip ahead a while cause i'm lazy and didn't take any pictures...

engine back in

innovative mounts

brains

shifter mounted, holes filled, all bushing and crap set up

got the gauges in

did a little clean up
before...

after...

my brother and i shot my mirrors, moldings, front bumper and fender in a fresh coat of paint before heading to Import Alliance 08, which is where i ran into another problem. on my way down there i hit a dip in the highway, and bottomed out, which knocked my oil pan loose somehow and i had a massive oil leak. if you look close you can see a nice little puddle under my car here in this pic taken at IA 08 :/

so, i managed to make it back to stl and started the tear down. originally i was just going to replace the oil pan and get it back on the road. then i though, well, i might as well spray the radiator support while i have some stuff apart. one thing led to another and i ended up on a completely different path, which is where i am today. i decided to ditch the boost setup and go back na for a while. mostly for reliability reasons, and also because i'd like to focus more on twisties these days and not so much straight lines. anyways, here is what i've been working on for the last year:

motor was nasty dirty

my attempt at nicely looming the harness

rs machines pr3s w/ new rings

bunch of random honda parts, brackets, bolts, etc

got the hole cut for the main harness tuck, and ran the wires

converted my fuel line to -6 an so i can run an inline filter and get rid of that bulky oem filter on the fire wall

got an integra rs mc and booster along w/ the 40/40 prop valve. this is the mc before:

a little alumiblast and 30 min later, i got this as the cleaned up version:

went to color master and picked up some arisol cans to quickly and cheaply give me bay a nice new coat. it actually turned out suprisingly well. i am happy with it, and it looks 100x better than it did.

also switched over to a manual rack. while it was out i decided to go ahead and replace the inner and outer tie rods.

replacement ball joints for my skunk 2 upper control arms

rod bolts

stainless steel brake lines w/ a black rubber coating

front and rear pads

new shocks

all new bushings

rear disk setup:

front setup

head

picked up a new tranny

oem front lip

new clutch line installed

shot of the bay

front end back together w/ oem lip installed:

side shot w/ 1+ year of dirt/grass collected on the car

crappy shot of my function 7 lcas w/ the illuminas

i still need to get my gsr rear sway bar on there and get it to a tuner. other than a few minor things, this is pretty much how i plan for the car to sit for the next year or so. but we'll see. the car starts and run great right now on a phearable ecu. I'm waiting to get it to a tuner before i drive it though.

if you read through all that, you're a better man than me. but thanks for looking

tomorrows plan is to get it inspected and get plates for it. hopefully i can make it to a tuner next week and get this thing back on the road. wish me luck!

well, i was boosted for about 3 years w/ my integra and my car was always down. then when i swapped it into the hatch, and i felt like i was going to end up going down the same path and never be able to drive my car. especially after the massive oil leak problem i had. its a blast, dont get me wrong, i just don't have the time to keep up w/ a turbo honda these days.

haha, well, if you add on my 7 years w/ my integra, + the 3 w/ the hatch, and i'm just now getting to the point of having a clean car, i'd say you are in great shape!

I never really thought about how much that hatch has been through since you got it, but it came together really good. The car looks great. Let me know when you go to get it tuned, if I don't have work or school I'll roll out there with you.
