To be honest with you I don't really like the gold, lol.

They are del sol vtec or si or something wheels, I dunno. I did a really thorough job painting them and clearing them, so for what they are they look professional. Whatever though, just cheap wheels. The brand new OEM visors are on, no comments on that?

Ditto

The fact that they don't stand out is a good thing.

Where did you pick up those wheels anyway? What made you choose them over your old ones?

Buddy of mine had them in his yard just sitting on a wrecked car. I got bored with the old ones I guess and just got these.

I also did some work to the car today. I removed the purge solenoid, bracket, wiring, and a bunch of relays I didn't need. I cleaned up all the wiring that was looking so shitty in the bay also.

All the distributor, gauge, and 02 wiring are all soldered and loomed now. Seamless OBD1 conversion. Like it was never even OBD0.

Also got the wideband 02 installed and running. Looks awesome in there. What kind of A/F ratio does a stock D16 with a stock ECU generally run? I don't know if mine is actually normal now that I can tell what it is.

Hmm it looks as if your radiator over flow reservoir may be in the wrong place.
Visors don't stand out much but look good. The gold wheels would go good if the pin stripes were gold. You going to be going by the 7th? I just realized it's not that far away & had to kick the body guy into gear on my hatch.

stock engine should cruise down the highway bouncing between 14.something and 15.something usually

WOT should be somewhere in the high 12's to low 13's i'd imagine. i bet every single engine is a hair different though.. havent spent much time with stockers lately!

good luck on the swap buddy!

Thanks man. The swap will not be a problem at all.

The only thing that makes me nervous is the fact that I built this motor by myself, by hand, and I've never done that before. We'll ssee what happens when I turn the key.

There's alot of assembly lube and WD-40 in this bitch so my plan is to let it warm up, change the oil, drive it for a few minutes to see how it feels, then change the oil again. I don't want to repeat your little debris in the oil fiasco.

I'm dumb.

I guess I'm just nervous and psyching myself out and over-analyzing things. Goal for tomorrow is to throw it in!

Only thing holding the motor in as of now is the mounts themselves. All the suspension, wiring, hoses, vacuum lines, etc is gone. The head is ready to go on the new block (now that my dumb self has relaxed for five seconds...) and get swapped in!

Yeah man, it's come a long way. Little update...

IT RUNS. I had a bit of a scare when it wouldn't start at first, but it was just the firing order wrong on the distributor.

My girlfriend came by and snapped a vid right when we started it up. Runs good! I drove it around for like 20 miles too and it drives really nice. The Action 6 puck 2MS takes a little getting used to, but it's perfectly streetable. No leaks, no overheating, and it's not even that slow to boot!

I thought that a 7.9 - 8.0:1 compression motor would be ungodly slow without a turbo, but it's actually very nice! Definitely not fast, but It's still a helluva lot faster than the stock D15 motor that came in it.

The motor has the usual Vitara slap when it is cold, but since I have .0035 PTW clearance, it sounds good when warmed up. The wrist pins still make a ticking noise even when warm, but not the pistons.

The only time I can get the motor to smoke is when I downshift to second or third and let it slow itself down. The motor gets like 24 in. hg. when I do this. Then, when I hit it again at full throttle, it'll smoke for a second or two. I assume that's because the rings aren't seated fully yet and the full vacuum is pulling oil past the rings?

Anyway here's the video:

Wow, sounds great! I'm glad to know that ticking isnt just my car lol. I just put in my Vitara/Custom I-beam z6 in my Eg 2 weeks ago and I thought I did something wrong with all the sound it was making (It didn't help that my dad put my T-belt on one tooth off). Good luck with your mini diesel!

do you have a wideband on it? you WANT mint AFRs on it to get a solid ring seal.

I still remember our attempted timing belt repair on the side of I-85. Best **** ever.

Glad to see she runs good. It's always a good feeling to do that kind of engine work and it goes without a flaw. Congrats!!!

You mean the one I fixed later?

Glad to see it's running. Now go drive the crap out of it so you can break it in.

Yeah I do. The AFR's are alot better on this engine for some reason than the last one. Maybe because I actually set the timing on this one.

It's anywhere between 14.4-15.1 when cruising, and at idle it's around 13.9 but varies.

Belt slippage on the highway FTL.

I was so happy yesterday when I was driving it, you have no idea.
