Default RHD DB8 Build

What's up HT, figured it's time to start my build thread. Here's the quick background:

99 DB7, GS model. I'll be doing the conversion and a GSR engine swap. No JDM front end, I actually like the US front better. The car was in a wreck two weeks after I got it because some dude wasn't paying attention and thus the damage to the rear quarter. That will be getting fixed as well with the conversion. For now I only have a few pictures of the DB8 clip and the car as it sits, but the work will begin this weekend so more pics will come.

Happy viewing.

Current Status: In Progress

Pretty much the day I got it.

And about two weeks after that...

Bone stock DB7 out at AutoX.

Exhaust ended up rusting through, so I fabbed up a 2013 Civic Si exhaust to fit. No resonator.

Honda Key.

Got pretty much a 1/4 of a full car... paid $160.

DB8 Clip.

Stripping the engine bay.

Firewall Out.

SIR-G Trunk.

I also purchased all four doors. However, I think I might just swap the guts around to my DB7 doors along with the mirrors so I don't have black doors on the car until paint.
GSR engine is on the way, so I'll have pics of that probably tomorrow. That will be getting a rebuild and cleaning before going in.

Thanks man! I'm excited myself.

Quick update, the GSR actually arrived today! So, here's a quick pic before she gets torn down.

GSR Engine.

Hows the exhaust sound. I heard the si mufflers are actually a nice upgrade over standard civic/integra mufflers.

Honestly, I absolutely love it. Won't be changing it with the engine swap. The only problem is when it's cold it has a little bees in a can sound since the resonator isn't there. Once it warms up though it goes away completely and I can freely rev with just a nice throaty sound. It's a full B-Pipe and Muffler. Just cut to fit the DB chassis.

Update: It looks like there could potentially be more damage than I thought. The guy I got the engine from said it smoked under vtec, provided a video, and it was dark smoke. But, I think the block may have a crack in it. Super unusual area for a crack to form so I guess I'll just wait to see what the machine shop says. By the way, I can catch it with a finger nail.

Possible crack?

Update: Turns out the apparent "crack" was just a water mark. Not sure how, but hey, that's good news too me. Bad news though, that cylinder was hour glassed so I'll need to bore it .020 over. Pistons, rings and all new bearings ordered. I'll get pictures after it's back from the shop.

That's exactly what I asked the machinist. Ha he felt it and confidently said not to worry about it.

I absolutely will be, engine bay will be repainted as well once it's done.

Update: Doing a little cleaning on the GSR intake manifold while the block and head is at the machine shop. I plan on having some fun with the cleanliness on this engine. Inside and out! Also picked up some OEM goodies.

These things clean up nicely!

So satisfying.

Rear quarter getting marked for cutting.

It has begun!

OEM GSR Strut Bar

Part number for the strut bar. Came on Del Sol VTEC and Civic Si as well. Part number checked at my local Acura dealership - same for GSR!

OEM GSR Shift ****.

Shift **** part number.

Update: I got more done yesterday than I thought I would. Front bumper, fenders, front and rear glass, and both front doors are off. Rolling right along! I'm hoping to have the engine out this weekend but I've got a lot going on. Might not happen. Also, no more super large pictures... apologies. haha

Update: Just a couple more pictures of it all coming apart. The rear quarter panel I'm actually really excited to have done.

how's the other quarter look? does that side need work too or are you just replacing the driver's side from the body damage and not rust?

The other quarter is fine. Just has some clear coat issues. I'm probably getting the entire car re-painted, which means the perfectionist in me is going to take care of any and all imperfections I find on the car. Should be a brand new 1999 Integra when I'm done. haha

Money and time were just right for me to do the conversion, I didn't really think I'd get to. But now that I'm into it, it's going to be a one and done.

Update: Got the engine out, under dash components, more work to the back end, started cleaning up some metal parts.

Leave them blasted but clear coated or paint them black?

Update: I know it's been a while since I've given an update, and unfortunately it will be a bit longer yet. I have a lot going on and don't really have time to get down to the shop right now. Here's the only thing that's happened between the last post and now.

Cleared up firewall

I should have more in about a week!
