And these are the types of threads that keep me from doing my homework.

Great DIY from the plate to the rust fixing.

i am planning on doing this only an H2D setup. a few questions...
what were the dimensions of the plate you bought, how much was it.
bolt dimensions?

what are you doing for the flywheel?

You seem to be very handy at making custom parts and innovating for whatever you don't have. Can't wait to see whats to come.

thats some awesome fab there. how did you get your templates centered on the crank. I see how you lined the 2 templates up after you had them, but I'm unsure how you got that center X to start with

Hah, thanks everyone.. I honestly didn't think it would get this much appreciation

And sorry for the long break, but I did promise pictures so I got some more for ya

Yea, I welded on another piece for support, new pics of it on the next page.

Cant remember exactly, I think around $120.. it was just from some random shop, they had a giant left over sheet of 1/2" 6061 in the back. Lucky me. They just cut out a rough square with a cutting torch and then finished up the edges on a bandsaw.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by racerxh00 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i am planning on doing this only an H2D setup. a few questions...

Oh geese, I did write them down months ago.. haha but I dont remember them, but the dimensions of the initial square plate aren't very important.. it just needs to be big enough for the blocks transmission mating surface and the tranny you are mating to the block. And when I was cutting out the plate to the shape of the bell housing I didn't really make measurements, I just cut out my template, traced it to the aluminum and started cuttin.

I ended up buying a flywheel spacer and bolts separately from qsd for a very reasonable price. I know its cheating, but heh.. I don't have a lathe in my garage or a decent drill press. Plus I know there spacer would have all the right proven dimensions as there kit uses a 1/2" adapter plate as well. If you know a machinist or have access to a lathe, drill press/ mill drill, basic layout tools, as well as the dimensions, you could easilyyy make one. Plus you would need to contact ARP for some longer flywheels bolts.

In your case, for the flywheel your going from 8 bolts to 6? You could just buy an H2D flyhwheel.. If i were doing H2D, Id probably attempt to use a stock d-series flywheel, fill the 6 holes with weld, mill it flat, and re-drill the new 8 bolt pattern, then make a spacer. But that's just me

I had trouble deciding the best way to find center myself. I ended up cutting out a small square in the center of my tracing paper and putting a piece of clear packing tape over it, then while I had it on the bell housing I was able to mark the center with a felt pen on the clear tape and proceed to trace the rest of the hole locations. I'm sure there are a few more accurate ways of laying out the plate, but this seemed to work pretty good for what it was.
