I have just heard from the shop this evening, and the car is finished. The paint is still a bit soft, they will be letting it dry in the oven. I'll pick it up tomorrow after class.
How do they put it in the oven all put together like that without melting stuff?
Anyways, this is perfect timing. I have the whole weekend to figure out how I took this thing apart a little more than 5 months ago.
Plenty of pics tomorrow and throughout the weekend of course!
Until then,
Take care H-T
the same way a car bakes under the sun...they put it in a booth similer to a paint booth with temps at 100 degrees for hours. no harm! can't wait for pics

The long awaited update!
The car was finished and brought home friday. I got it all together saturday and sunday. Got the rims and tires put on it also. Handling is 999999999X better than it was before I still need a few clips here and there for the weather stripping, but wow, what a difference!

Will get some better pictures when I get some good weather and my camera.

Now that's reddddddd and smoooooooth. I should have got a close up of the water beading on it today.

I have an emblem now! And new fogs! Thinking about slapping some new headlights on it later on.

Putting it back together

Driver's side

Passenger side, jacked up so I can bolt the bumper on more easily

front end

Today, with the rims and tires. Check the awful color distortion on my phone!

So, what's next?
A little break...
...While I save up for the goodies.
...Finishing the sound system,
fixing some things here and there also.
I think this thing would look great lowered a couple of inches also, that might be in the future along with strut, sway, and rear subframe braces.

Anyone have some center caps they could sell me?

In the next few weekends I'll work on getting the wipers fixed, they have so much play in them right now. They park halfway up the window and flop over the A pillar. Yet when I adjust them, they hit the cowl on their way down and still hit the A pillar. So that's one of my next challenges.

This along with getting some clips and things for weather stripping, and fixing the leaks I'm getting from the doors. They're coming right from the top corner of the triangle window. Any ideas on how to fix them? I was going to try some dielectric grease first, not sure if that would take care of it or not.

It's come a long way from when I got it, so let's keep making it better

take care H-T

Didn't have my camera on me today, but I did get this picture. It was perfect weather - sunny, 72, and no wind.

I'll dig up the camera when the clips come in and I get the window moldings back in.

So, I finally got a good picture.

It's been a long and slow month. A lot has gone on, it's been a reality check. But what can I say, life is life.

Therefore I haven't done much to the car since I put it back together. School has been catching up to me lately, I'm trying to keep on top of that also. I started collecting things to finish the sound system, maybe I'll do a write up on that when I get around to it.

I have plenty of odd things to fix on this car over the next few months, so I'll start looking for some spare time, and a part time job lol.

Stay tuned until then

The new stereo has arrived, along with the 4 channel amp. The mono amp should be in the mail soon.

For those who like specs:
Kicker zx350.4 4 channel amp. 60 watts at 4 ohms, but it's really more... The amp is rated at 350 at 2 ohm, but the birth sheet says 400-something.
Kicker zx300.1 class d mono amp.
Kenwood kdc-x395 stereo. CD, AUX, USB, 6 preamp outputs at 4v
Polk Audio dxi 650 speakers all around.
Future plans: a single dxi124 dvc sub, 12", wired at 2 ohms, sealed box in the trunk.

I got the speaker amp and stereo put in this weekend. Sounds good but I have alternator noise I have to find the source of.

As far as axles go, are the autozone brand ones any good, or should I just go honda refurbs?

I put the car away for the winter, all covered up and everything. After all that work, the last thing I want to do is ruin it with the salt (or slide into a ditch). I probably won't get much done to it until I get my license in February.

I may do some small things like put in the sub and swap the axles out. Maybe I'll change the clutch too since the one in it now engages high, but I don't know if I'm ready to drop a transmission in a freezing cold garage. We will see on that one.

While I'm on that topic... Exedy or ACT? I will probably just be putting in an OE style clutch, its only a b7... I can get an Exedy clutch, flywheel, throwout and pilot bearings, and alignment tool on ebay for like $100... Are they any good?

Also, does anyone have any pics of a lowered sol on stock rims? I'm having trouble finding any. Maybe i'll stick some Function and Form type 1's on it sooner or later.

Strut and sways will work from a teg correct? I know I need control arms, I should be able to get those from a teg also..? I have lots of body roll after I put those tires on, I think its the softer sidewalls. 15's are deff. the way to go on a sol.

I'll try to come up with something to do to the car. Finals are coming in a month or so, but I'll have plenty of winter break to work on it.

Later HT

Sub is on the way. Polk Audio DXI 124 DVC. Will be running with a Kicker amp, 300 watts. Will probably build the box over winter break and do a write up on it.

As far as paint protection, do I want to wax it, or should I polish it also?
Any recommendations as far as products to use? Looking for a nice deep finish and something I won't have to wax every week like carnauba... And something that comes off/goes on easy like a polymer. Anything that gives a good blend of both?

Well not much at all has been done to the car lately. It is in the garage, covered up, waiting for February. I got the sub put in the trunk, it sounds good, but when you get driving the engine/road noise seems to drown it out. Should I dynamat the firewall or something?

Anyone know where I can get some good shocks and springs for cheap? Maybe some used F&F type 1's or some koni yellows? The body roll is driving me crazy.

Also nobody ever said what I should do to protect that paint.... Nobody seems to like to leave a little wisdom on this forum. :/

Going back to school on Monday, I might get some stuff done to the car during the semester but I doubt anything noteworthy. Lately I have had the Pontiac nostalgia lol. Maybe I'll buy one for a project if I can convince the parents...

Any autocross events I would be able to get into in the spring, being 16 and all?

Any shows in the central/northern Illinois area in the spring sometime?

As ETCG would say, stay dirty.
