Well, sorry for the long wait everyone.
Plans are to head back home on monday. So there should be some progress on the car by the end of next week. My goal is to have the car ready for paint by:
Wednesday, August 22nd

Why that date? Well I'm back to school then, so if I can have it in the paint shop it would be very ideal

Most of the work left is filler and sanding. Do you think I can do it?

Reminder to my self:fix the trunk lid. (Ill put pictures up when I get back so you know what i'm talking about.)

So it doesn't seem like i'll be able to meet my deadline. I have a lot more work than I thought I would. Still working with the dents, getting it all straight. Anyway, here is some pictures of where I'm at.

Here's the trunk issue I was talking about. Either going to fill it in with something or just leave it alone.

Dents all sanded down ready for filler.

Shot of the other side.

Getting ready to strip the hood.

Sanded the filler down a bit much, I will get on it with a light coat later. My paint guy is going to help me out with putting it on better. This side's paint got sanded too rough, I'll strip it to metal so it doesn't show in the final finish.

Started taking the car apart.

Shot of the other side, there's the hood getting stripped.

This is where I am at now. I'll work on it a lot this next week. I have to strip the paint that got sanded too rough, then get to work on the filler.

So strip the rough paint, filler, sand and feather with 80 then 180, 320 and 600 on the whole car, then mask and send it in for paint? Am I forgetting something?

I still have a solid 2 weeks of work before school gets started again, then most of the work will be done on weekends. My new personal deadline is the end of September. Can I do it?

Wish me luck.

Thanks
Got all the rough paint sanded down with 180 today, it feels smooth. I'll strip the other side tomorrow, then my paint guy will be over to help me out with filler and getting it smooth and flat.

My battery went dead today. It fired right up in the morning, and when I went to move it into the shade, it wouldn't crank. Good thing its a stick, because those come with push to start XD

I'm regretting putting 2 way speakers in the front and back. Should have went with components in the front. I didn't know much about speakers when I got them though...
Anyone wanna buy a pair of Polk DXI650's for full retail price from me? Barely used. :D

I'll go for components later, when I get an amp and sub. These will do for now.

This is what we started with:

This is what we have now:

This is the end goal:

^^^^^ What's wrong with that picture? ^^^^^

I think we have made progress

More coming tomorrow.

Holy bondo Batman. Rule of thumb from what I was told is no more then 1/8th of an inch thick. Did you bang the metal out from the inside to get it as flat as possible? or just throw on some filler?

The little dents I didn't bother with because once sanded down they will barely be 1/8inch. The big hit that it took in the rear quarter was pounded out as flat I could get it. The problem is if I took it out any farther it started sucking in the door jamb, so that is as far as I could go with it.

If I was more experienced with this work I would have gotten a different quarter, but the closest one was in wisconsin and I'm in central Illinois...

Any ideas what the size of the oem exhaust tip is, and where I can get one like it?

Sorry about the double post.

Sanded down the other side of the car today, and the paint guy came over and helped me with filler. Tomorrow is filler work, taking my time. My goal to finish the filler is next week sometime, probably Friday.

Got some of those mixing sheets for filler, they are a lot nicer than trying to clean my piece of sheet metal I was working with. Also got some of those plastic spreaders. Much easier to use than putty knives and for $0.22 you can't go wrong.

After I get the filler straight and smooth its glazing putty. Then sand with 320 and primer. Trying to get that done before I'm back to school, but I've got about 2 weeks.

Pictures tomorrow after I get going with the filler.

I'm thinking about putting a turbo on the stock b7 in the future. I can pull a small turbo off a saab or maybe an eclipse, get an intercooler and some piping, 450 injectors (?), walbro fuel pump (?), and a tune. If it would put out 150hp and that in torque in the low revs, I would be very happy.

b16 sols came from the factory with 0-60 in about 6.5, and thats with little low end torque. I wonder if I could keep up with them with a turbo.

But the question is...

Would I need to build it, or swap for a built z6? For maybe a max of 8psi (would I need that for 150hp, or maybe just 5psi?), and a gain of 50hp and torque? Don't want it to pop in the middle of an auto x, stock b7 rods are scary...

So the work that I was going to do today was rained out. More tomorrow, weather permitting.

Anyone have some GSR integra rims they want to get rid of?

The stuff I put on thick on the dents was all sanded out and is being re-done.

The quarter panel has been shaved a lot, still working on getting it straight. Needs a little more work.

Like I said before, there was not much I could do to keep from having to put it on thick on the quarter.

Hoping for some nice weather tomorrow so I can get a lot done.

Gonna see about getting rid of my door speakers I picked up and getting some components up there. Would it make much of a difference?

Bad engine mount? That's the driver's side top mount.

The car is a bit jerky for a few seconds when I lift off or add throttle when I wasn't pushing it. It's less noticeable in higher gears. It also sometimes does it when I engage the clutch.

In 1st gear if I lift off it'll start jerking around 2000rpm and smooth out around 1000-idle.

Not sure if that would be a bad mount causing it or something else. Torque mounts? My bad axles?

I got the stuck spark plug out Will be changing them out with some NGK's soon.

I have been working with filler, the car is getting close to being ready to prime. I think I can have it primed in the beginning of September.

Still have to do filler work on the passenger side door and quarter, and on the decklid and hood. I need some glaze putty also and to hit it with some 320, then it's just the minor stuff like door handles and masking before it gets primed.

Soooooo ready to have this all finished

Starting to think about swaps

b18 a reliable swap? looking for 0-60 in about 5.5 to 6. Any ideas?

I'll try to get some work done on the coming weekend. Back to school=busy :/
Remember, I'm hoping to have the body finished by the end of september.

Ok H-T, sorry for the wait. Here is my plan:

Finish the hood and trunk lid tomorrow.
Sunday- get most of the work done on the passenger door and quarter panel.

Next weekend- finish the quarter, driver side patch, and any other things with filler. Also clean up the door jamb on the passenger side.

Following weekend- out of town.

Weekend of the 15th- fix rear bumper. Get the car smooth and go for glaze.

If I need to use the next weekend then I will, along with prepping the door handles and mirrors, masking etc.

End of the month- have it in the shop, they can finish up any small things for me, final sand it, finish masking, prime, paint, clear.

Sorry I haven't been posting many pics, I don't have any new ones. Weather permitting, I'll start on the work I listed and snap pics tomorrow.

These plans will probably change, and I probably won't meet my deadline, but hey, I'll do my best.

Lemme know if I left something out.

Almost all filler is laid down, except the patch panels and part of the passenger door. I'm working on getting everything flat. So more filler on low spots, sanding, etc. Will try to work on it after class for a couple hours every day. Then I'll probably send it into the shop for the rest of the work. More coming soon.

FINALLY got some long needed work done on the car. It's starting to surface rust again. :/ Wish I had more time...
The hood is.. well it is what it is, still full of dents and not so flat. I worked on it a good 8 hours this weekend. Using a guide coat helps, but it's those big areas that I laid filler on that are rough. The small block is also taking down the guide coat in the low spots, I need to get some more of those 17 inch sanding sheets and make myself a big block for this hood, the quarter, door, and trunk lid.

If only I had 2 weeks off.....

I'll try to find some more time soon. It would be great if I could get it in the shop by the end of september. Or maybe october.

Sorry about not having pics, there just isn't much interesting to show. Anyway, here is what I have been working on lately:

I got another 4 hours of work in this evening. New sandpaper and a can of primer make this 10 times easier. Everything is mostly flat. I sprayed a last guide coat before I put it back in the garage, so when I have time to work on it next all I have to do is hit it with some paper to see where the highs and lows are, and then fix those and get them smooth. Then it should be ready for glaze, and on to the rest of the car

A good note to the newbies: Check Majestic Honda. If you've got the $$, it is ALOT easier to just order a new hood. I have about 18-20 hours in this hood, and it's harder than it looks. It still needs another day to get it perfect. Keep in mind that I could have cut that down if I had more sandpaper when the suppliers were closed.

So I'm going to try hard to get the deadline of this month. Things are looking a lot more promising after the hood. Next is the trunk lid, and other small spots on the body. Then I'll have my painter help me out with the door, quarter, and patch panel. Then primer :D

Almost forgot about the rear bumper. That needs some work. :/

I think we're making some progress

Later H-T

LONG needed update. Sorry guys, but since school has started I have had a full day every day, weekdays and weekends.
This is one of the problems with a project car, you need lots of time.
So my decision is to try to smooth up as much of it as I can in the next 2 weekends whenever I am free, and then I'll send it off to the shop to have the body finished up and painted. It has been in the 60's and 70's lately, so I have to get it over to the shop sooooon. They have been really busy lately and I would like to be able to drag it back home before winter starts.
This build isn't gonna be over yet.
I still have suspension, audio, maybe even an engine swap, who knows.
I'll snap some pictures before I send it in.

Until then,
SQ

Yes, it is my first time ever doing body work.
I wish I had more time to finish it myself. :/
Maybe I'll get another project and do a build on it next summer or something.

So, I have the car all prepped to go to the shop tomorrow morning.
I put the lights, mirrors, and plates on hand-tight just so I can legally drive it. The driver side is all smooth except for the little bit of work that the shop will do on the patch panel to get it even. The trunk lid needs a little work on the large spot, there is a bit of a low spot in it, and another small dent on the lid. Passenger side is where most of the work is, with the quarter panel, door jamb, and door itself. The fender is good. The hood also has a little work, a couple of lows and highs but other wise it is smooth. Front bumper is new, the rear bumper needs quite a bit of work though, it's rough. And of course the small things like mirrors, door handles, etc.

It sounds like a lot but it shouldn't take that long. I have done a lot to it.

After that it is glaze, finish sanding, masking, primer and paint!!
Sooooooooo ready to see the finished product, I hope it turns out nicely.

I have some pics of the car as it sits now, and I will probably pass by the shop every once in a while to see how things are going and snap some pics. Wish I could have finished it all myself, but I've learned a lot, it's time to get it finished!!

When I got the car:

Driver side hasn't changed much

Passenger side hasn't changed much either

The trunk

Bumpers ready to be loaded up in the van

Here's the front end. Hood is much smoother than it was

That's all I have for now. Later H-T

I passed by the shop today. They were just getting ready to mask and prime.
It looks SMOOTH. I would have needed many weekends to get it that way.
The car should be ready to bring back home and put together by the end of next week. I'm looking forward to it

Hello H-T!
I've got a little update on the project for everyone today.
I have just heard from the shop this evening, and the car is finished. The paint is still a bit soft, they will be letting it dry in the oven. I'll pick it up tomorrow after class.
How do they put it in the oven all put together like that without melting stuff?
Anyways, this is perfect timing. I have the whole weekend to figure out how I took this thing apart a little more than 5 months ago.
Plenty of pics tomorrow and throughout the weekend of course!
Until then,
Take care H-T
