93 VX all motor build, almost done... 56k, probably not.
Picked this up about 2 months ago. I had gotten tired of dealing with my turbo SI, the fact that NC now has emissions for OBD2 cars made it more of a hassle, and I decided to do some changing. The car was bought by a buddy of mine rock stock almost a year ago and I swapped in a GSR for him. and other than that, it stayed rock stock right down to the 13 inch wheels.
After I picked it up, I stripped it as far as I could with my 2 month build idea in mind wanting to get everything I wanted done but not go overkill or take away from my kids college fund.
Engine setup is simple,
B18A bored to 81.5
PR4 rods, shotpeened, ARP studs, resized
Mahle high compression pistons
Moroso rear sump pan
OBD2 vtec oil pump
B16 water pump
ACL mains/rods
Golden eagle Head studs
Hasport mounts
Head
99 PR3 head
S2 valve springs
S2 stg2 cams
S2 ti retainers
fresh deck, seats, bronze valve guides, and a few other odds and ends
S2 Pro series cam gears
S2 pro series manifold
PWJDM whale *****
ProFab 4-2-1 header
Cooling
Ebay aluminum radiator (worked like a champ in my turbo car, why mess with a good thing)
FAL electric fan
Fuel
Walbro 255
BDL rail (just for some bling)
B&M regulator and gauge
RC 310cc's
NOS direct port with stainless nozzles/lines
NOS single fogger (first stage)
2 gallon fuel cell (Race gas for the nitrous)
Holley Blue (second fuel cell pump)
Tranny
S4c
ACT xtreme 6 puck
S2 ****
S2 dual bend
Exterior
Amber corners
JDM **** lip
No name duckbill
Spoon knock off mirrors
Polished fat fives (still have to do the last two)
Omni Power Street coilovers (10k/8k)
Interior
Completely painted black (not a black interior for sale ANYWHERE, probably 100+ hours including prep work to do this)
Random ricer seats until I get some red Recaros
Electronics
P28 with Crome Pro
MSD timing retard
AEM wideband
Wire tuck/fuse box relocation
Misc things I can't think of.
There is probably a lot more but I have been going non stop since this started and I forget a lot of things I have put on or taken off. Now on to the pics.
These are from when I originally threw the GSR in it just so you can see the interior color and how it started.
Fugly blue
And now once I start the stripping.
Parts starting to get sprayed. The entire interior was removed, scrubbed with soap and water, then roughed up with scotchbrite, then cleaned with Prep All, THEN finally sprayed with 4 light coats of interior black. They were dropped, banged around, stepped on, and everything else to make sure it would hold up and not a scratch. I was pretty happy with how it all came out.
Refreshments for the painting
Then we get on to the no kidding wire tucking. Entire harness exits beside the rear mount, fuse box in in the glove box (removed the back of it so it still opens and closes normally to allow access to the fuses) but I have not decided 100% on final battery location. I thought about doing the fuel and brake lines as well, but that's just a bit more than I am willing to do for a weekend/track toy.
Interior is fully cured and back in the car. Black came out pretty good as well.
Omni's are on, waiting for my rear sway bar from a friend.
Front shot, need one more pass on that wheel and it's done, then just have to do the back ones.
And finally, the motor assembly. It will be completely together Tuesday night. I am waiting on a headgasket from Cometic. I had to order it to get the thickness I needed for the proper quench on the motor but here are a couple of pics of it. Should have the installed ones next weekend.
The last pic is mocked up with an old headgasket just checking piston to valve clearance tonight.
Once the motor is installed in the car, we will do a quick and hard mototune style break in and street tune. Then get it on the dyno and get what we can get out of it on motor and then install the remainder of the nitrous setup. The intake manifold is already plumbed and all the fuel parts are here, we just haven't put them in yet. Probably be this coming weekend as well.
Only future plans are the carpet will be coming back out for a cage within a month, probably looking for a set of wheels for it as I can't decide if I really like polished fat fives, and of course locate a set of Recaros once my wallet recovers from the hit it's taken so far on the build.
Last but not least, I really want to thank Jackson Auto in Kinston NC and Scott Sublett for venturing into an import (they are a pro mod/outlaw 10.5 shop) and doing the motor and nitrous for me just to get their feet wet with this kind of stuff and East Coast Performance and Larry Stevenson for spending many a late night over here offering advice and a helping hand.
Love it or hate it, here she is

Yeah man, definately need some new tires. Those tires/wheels are from my old 92 CX I sold back in 05 that was DUMPED. Once I get the car corner weighted and aligned, I will pick up a new set of tires for it.
Thanks for all the positive comments.

Well, it has no miles on it but it's been crawled all over, dropped, kicked a few times, vacuumed, armor all'd, and generally treated rough to see if it would hold up and so far not a scratch.
I used Dupont vinyl paint, semi gloss on the hard plastic, flat on the soft.

I'm getting old man, my body doesn't like liquor anymore, dark beers have never done it for me, Corona gives me a headache while I drink it, and energy beers get me to drunk to function because they taste too good so I stick with Bud Light. Just enough to keep me mellow but not good enough for me to pound and lose motor skills

so lemme get this straight.
when it comes to wire tucking. do you actually extend the wires? i don't quite understand how it's done. i am not gunna start another thread about it i am just curious. they are put behind the fenders but how?
BTW this is a great progress build.

Re: (Hondizzle!)
I love the build idea! I am hoping to do something like this, back to the basics but still enough flavor to have alot of fun.
-How much nitrous are you planning on spraying?
-And I hear you on the kids college fund.

feen! it has been 3 months for me.
sick progress on the build, also white is a really good color choice because its so easy to maintain.
im guessing you have a CX with the blue interior? mine was like that but luckily i found a vx with a black interior and used that... then i sold the vx. it took about 20+ hours of tedious work.
good luck and keep the thread updated
