Winter problems?
I'm from WI and it gets very cold during the winter here. Lately I've been having trouble starting my car on cold days. I have JE pistons 12.5:1 pistons in my b18c. I have the timing retarded to about 11 degrees btc. Could that be the reason why my motor won't start right away. It starts up after about 20 cranks or so until it heats up a little i think. Does anybody here have that problem? What can I do to resolve this problem?
damn 11 degrees
car must rev really slowly...
yes here in NJ my car takes forever to start
pistons shrink when cold
you arent the only one man...
I also run a stock heat range plug for winter
keep an eye on your oil level too when cold
i think it burns some when cold
I also warm it up before driving it.

Wi here as well. I put my car in the garage for winter.
Try some Heat (red bottle, drys up condensation in the fuel lines) in the gas tank. When you turn the key to on wait for the fuel pump to stop before turnning over the motor.
Most cars take a little longer to start in the winter.

hi Revhard,
i live on the corner of lake michigan where we get the lake effect and the cars spin on first or second try allways. even in sub zero temps. did you check you're air filter? maybe you need to replace the fuel filter? do you press the choke? i always pump the gas pedal all the way down then start both the carbed and fuel injected cars. are you're spark plugs o.k. spark cables? idle set right? i think you just need a tuneup. we've had like 8 hondas and they allways start on first or second attempt barring battery troubles.

yup im up in minneapolis and it takes forever for the car to start when cold, like 10 minuites for me to reach operating temp and nominal oil pressures
i also see some oil consumption as well
just be thankful on cold starts your car doesnt spit 'ghost' cel's like mine does, above 50 degrees it wont do that, any lower and it does
