Default Waterpump failure?

Ok I am about to finish my recent build and have a question.

My buddy, who has been working as a honda-tech for like 9 years says that I should get rid of my aftermarket waterpump that I bought in favor of a Honda waterpump. His reasoning is that he says he sees aftermarkets pumps come in all the time that break.

I have a pump from O'reilys and it is a new unit not a rebuilt one.

what kind of results have you guys had?

I would have to agree with your friend. Been reading all over the boards and even on the other sites, they do recommend Honda parts for things like Timing Belt, Water Pump and etc. They do last longer than most aftermarket maintenance parts.

they only thing that confuses me is how could someone screw up making a waterpump..there are no moving parts just the shaft that spins which is dependent on the timing belt...but he says he sees them breaking off the shaft.

I don't know I already have it in and he just told me when he came over to show me how to adjust my valves. He is not one to bullshit about things like this either just looking for input from people who have run them.

Often times aftermarket companies use lesser quality materials in their units than OEM. Cheaper bearings, seals, metals, etc. I've never really had a problem with aftermarket Honda pumps, but going with OEM is good peace of mind.

It depends if you got a "new" aftermarket pump, or a 'rebuilt" aftermarket pump.

I got a water pump for an ls motor on ebay, it was brand new made in japan oem spec part. It was so crappy that I threw it out. It turned hard, had an odd looking cast iron impeller and weighed twice as much as the oem.
