Surging idle after new tune..Running threw the steps.
Decided to push back the header install until next week, i wanted to get a full street tune done on the old header before i switched..
Started with a new map, as the base i was running was a 20 min **** tune on a broken TPS.
I installed a new tps and according to crome pro gold edition, the tps at idle is now 0% , it was reading -3. So i got that fixed...
Now the tune went great, however the idling is another problem and i've spent the past 5 hours on it and i can't do anything....I've tried messing with a leaner AFR or Richer at idle.. car doesn't surge until i blip the throttle or the fan comes on, then it surges and does not stop.
The Throttle body is a 70mm POWER TB, the screw has been messed with, along with the throttle stop setup. I "thought" the IAVC was the problem, but in crome pro gold, the tuning part of that works, its currently at 22% which allows the car to not die after a hard hard pull, but surges. Idle is set for 900rpms. I can upload the maps if you'd like, i just can't get rid of this surging idle.. This only happened on the new setup after this **** tune, I didn't move the fuel filter and it completely crushed my TPS, after replacing it, I now have this problem.. Any ideas? There's no vac leaks around anything i've already checked, the only thing i can think of is the tps might have a air leak around it?

I had the same damn problem with the 68 Power TB. When the car is turned on, it surges to around 2000rpms then drops to 1000rpms and does it over again. I was told that the idle/coolant temperature needs to be adjusted, so you can try that. Mines would surge until the car reached operating tempuratures and then idle godd until I flipped the throttle, then it would start over again. After a bit of messing with my IAV duty cycle, it went back to normal. Hope this helps

Nah, that is the software calibration.
You have to manually rotate the tps to give you voltage of 0.5 closed.

Lol, I believe the middle wire + and ground to the chassis.

red wire would be your sweep wire with your ground on the chassis. i would try to manually adjust the iacv also

IF your talking about the thing under the throttle body, i do not have one.. I have a KMS block off plate, i do have the thing behind the manifold.. but in all my time i just thought they went bad i did not know you could adjust them??
timing at idle is 16btdc
i just timed it went i got home dizzy is dead on with crome.

hmm thats weird the only thing changed was the tune correct?
if so reload a map and see if it still does it maybe a checksum or something

nah its not that..
i told you i changed the tps too, but in crome at idle, it says 0%.
Marc told me get a voltmeter i need to make it show .5 closed so maybe the tps is correctly calibrated yet..
I always disable the checksum, if it is the checksum, the car would go into limp mode.. thats the only thing checksum would cause.

ive had them all kinds of crazy stuff like a 1500rpm map fuel cut and other crazy stuff. lol i was just thinking of different things but yes the .5 and 4.5 should be the voltage
Here's what i did when i got home.
I calibrated the tps, .5 closed on the money, 4.78 when wide open throttle.. thats the closes i could get it to 4.5. I started the car, it idled up and down slowly, and got to the 900 rpms sat for a few seconds, and then bam, started to surge..
I checked the timing, as of now the dizzy is set for 16TDC i checked it twice, and yes i jumped the ecu wire. The intake cam is at +3 and the exhaust was at 0. I set the exhaust to -1 just for ***** and the idle got way better.. but still surged but not as high.. but would die.
I tried disabling the IVAC in crome pro gold.. Didn't help, i tried unpluging it but the car runs like crap.. The idle screw on the TB has been adjusted every which way i could thing.. The only thing that even remotely helps is the Throttle stop screw barely pushing on the plate.. but even then it stills surges.. i haven't let the car fully warmup however to see if it dies after a hard pull or doesn't surge at normal temp.. any idea it shouldn't do this, i got a brand new can of chemtool and sprayed the house down.. the motor didn't miss a beat..

Extend the idle resolution for your low cam timing maps. I usually set the 1,000 and then 1,200rpm setting to the same as stock. This has always resulted in a rock solid idle for me.
I also like to know because i have similar problem https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2305746
i've found on some cars with crome, if you have too high of a % for the IACV duty cycle it would cause a bouncy idle, only when the program was burnt to a chip, never with my emulator while real-time tuning.
The ghey thing is, some cars would require the IACV duty cycle to be that high to not dip down when coming back down to idle.
I also found similar timing numbers in the column/rows around idle would help steady out a bouncy idle on some cars.
I've started tuning with Neptune and haven't yet run into this problem, neptune has a solid idle control, something crome doesn't have.

i'm using crome pro gold, an updated edition that does have a steady idle setup.
I also have eCtune.
This isn't burnt to a chip, but a RTP board.
I have no clue i'm stuck against a wall..

took off my iavc althought i didn't want too.. very very dirty.. as i took it off, the gasket crumbled in my fingers..
getting a new gasket today from honda and i'm letting it air out, filter had to be cleaned multiply times with chemtool b12.

honestly, i've found my car idles best on Neptune. I've tuned the car with Crome, eCtune and Neptune now.
With crome, i had to increase the idle resolution to have a somewhat decent idle. I'm using crane stage 2 cams in my 11.5:1 CR boosted b16. With crome it was sort of a compromise with my car, either the idle dipped down upon decel SOMETIMES and the car idled nice, or the car wouldn't dip down ever but sometimes my idle would go funky. It was never 100% with crome, although lots of cars i've done with crome idled fine and didn't dip down on decel, but some cars would no matter what was done. With eCtune on my car, it still dips down sometimes but the idle is pretty solid, made decent numbers on low boost last time it was on the dyno too with eCtune. With Neptune the car (and every car i've tuned with Neptune so far) the idle has been rock solid and it never dips down on decel. I've found even with the lastest versions of crome the idle control still a little off.
I know this doesn't help you, i'm just stating my experiences.
A crusty old IACV gasket can cause a vacuum leak, hopefully thats all it is.

I completely understand and appciate your post.. a free ware version such as crome isn't for someone who can not trouble shoot problems..
I myself hope its only this gasket.. as i've seen 3 hours just sitting in the car messing with the maps..
Ign maps are steady 16.50 in the idle area.. I have my IACV % at 10, and my target idle is at 900. i'm running alittle on the 15.0 AFR with the tb screw all the way in, and the throttle stop resting on the regular settings. The tps is calibrated to .5 closed 4.78 wot. There's nothing else i can do, as i said, even the car is running i spray choke cleaner all around and the motor doesn't miss a beat.
I haven't even let it warm all the way up to even see if the problem goes away.. and what it does after a hard pull.. I was having a problem during the tune, how after a WOT pull, it'd come back to idle and just kill.. I hope this is the problem, such small things can cause such big headaches..

Got home today with the new gasket, Everything sealed good, i went ahead and set my idle targe to 950, and my IACV % was at 17%
Started the car and it surged... -_-
here's the kicker tho.. I let it completely warmup fooled with the tb screw and the throttle stop some more, and no changes it still surges about 500rpms up and down.. I'll rev the car up to about 5k and it'll come down and land str8 on 900 rpms settle, then surge again.. i believe this might be bad a IAVC? Or maybe i just need to go ahead and switch over to ectune now.. any thoughts?
