Default Porting a GSR intake manifold

I've searched and didn't find much info. I've *heard* that porting the stock GSR intake manifold yeilds better results as far as midrange/lowend than the popular skunk2/blox single runner intake manifold.

I would like to know what needs to be done to the manifold to get good results as far as hand porting goes? I have an extra manifold but I haven't taken it apart to check it out. Is it obvious what needs to be done to clean it up?

My dad was telling me that I should have it Extrudehoned; is that a better choice?

Thanks guys

Its alot of work, and you'll gain some top end. You'll definitely loose some low end and mid range. Not worth it IMHO.

I had my GSR intake manifold ported and polished. I love it. Yes it will yield very nice gains in the mid range. The biggest gains I had where between 4k and 6k, in some areas I gained 7 hp.
I also looked into Extrudehone, way to expensive. Maybe if you are looking for the very last little bit of power out of a racecar.
My tuner has a single runner intake manifold on his GSR and did get all the mid range back that he lost but it take a ton of time on the dyno to get it back.
I also had the intake manifold port match to my 64mm TB.
When I get the cylinder head PnP'd I am planning on have the butterfly valves replace with larger ones maybe 0.5mm-1.0mm, each valve.
Also I make 174whp/133tq on stock GSR head and cams. Amazing on the street.

Pics of my intake and dyno on page #2.

extrude honing is garbage!!! do people not know this yet? many engine building companies also offer porting services on the gsr manifold which seem to be making amazing numbers. these however are done by either cnc or by hand, no extrude honing.

Since porting is so labor intensive, I figured I would give it a shot since I've got more time than money.

I was just wondering what needed to be done to the manifold to get decent power out of it. I was hoping it would be obvious when you opened the manifold up and saw all the terrible casting flaws that were causing the restriction. I havn't opened up the manifold but I looked in there and didn't really see anything that was obvious so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Anyone have pics of their ported gsr manifold?

Randy from RMF made that, no? Or you? I've seen it before but I can't remember who posted it.

So that manifold has the butterflys and plenum removed and replaced with a bigger plenum? That's a B16 head? Hummm....

I wouldn't mind seeing some dyno sheets, I just hate the way stock GSR manifolds look!

fyi if you would be able to buy that bottom portion of the intake manifold you would still have to port the top half too...

I'd like to port the spare GSR IM I have.

So $340 for the total package , thats not to bad, better than $410. Is that what you paid, $340 ? Id also like to see dyno chart too.

yeah, $340 isn't bad but, for myself, I was hoping to be able to do it myself. Like I said, I've got more time than money and access to porting tools.

I think I might just take the manifold apart and take a look at it and if there is anything obvious then I'll take care of it.
