Please help me understand what head gasket thickness has to do with how much a rod stretches...?

Honda recommends .020" in the hole in order not to have rod strech at high rpms...franqualy I don't know why but I know that I was runing a .027" head gasket with 0.005" milled head and My type R pistons and I spun a bearing cause of rod strech...I was 0.012" out of the hole to start with because of the pistons and milled head!

I am a little skeptical that rod stretch was the cause of a bearing failure. If your pistons were out of the hole enough to contact the head I can see your rod bearings getting hammered. A thicker head gasket might fix that problem, just measure everything.
