H22a euro R N/A project
Hey guys, I grab a deal on a complete H22a euro R, the thing is 1-2-3 cylinder are at 220 psi and cylinder 4 is at 80 psi. I plan to rebuild it completly from the oil pan to the valve cover.
I am not in a hurry to finish this since I actually run a H22a4 in my civic EK. so I have all the winter to overhaul it and add a little more power in it at the same time..
I was thinking to port and polish the intake manifold + head do you guys have some tips about port and polish on these engine , how deep should I go ? and for the TB should I get a 70 mm or bigger ?
I saw some complete rebuild kit on ebay for H22a will it work with my euro R ??
I'll get the KS tuned balancershaft remover kit and the H23a tensioner converstion kit..
what should I do next to gain some power ?
here is some shot, I already started the disassembly of the engine.

P&P+ drop in cam+ good header (really good header)= 200+ HP or so. The KS balance shaft removal is a good idea too. Although, if you don't need extra space in the engine compartment, just take the belt off and save yourself the trouble

I would investigate the weak cylinder before making upgrade plans. If the cylinder is damaged the block is likely not much more than a large paperweight. This is essentially the same engine as your h22a4 anyway with some minor variations to the pistons and cams with of course the 1 piece intake manifold.
The balance shaft delete has its place but leaving them in and working keeps factory oil pressure and an very smooth motor. Cams... results vary with aftermarket cams. Stock has been best for me. But maybe a pro 1 or something would work for you. Keep in mind, this is a $1000+ upgrade for questionable results over type s cams & valve train. This block already has the desirable compression so it would take move toward the 95 or 97mm crank to get more hp out of it.
Personally, I would buy a larger throttle body (professional products ftw) and port match the manifold. Then Find a really decent header, and an appropriate exhaust. A light flywheel will help response. And there will be a simple yet effective setup. To make a more high performance engine than this requires a ground up build, imo.
