GSR pistons on ls rods?
Im trying to put pistons from a 1997 GSR into my ls and i tried to put the rods in the pistons but the rod is to fat to fit. Should i machine the rods or the pistons so that they fit together? THanks

IMO..As long as you use the ls crank with the ls rods..You must remove 1mm of material on each side of the small end of the connecting rod in order to have sufficient clearance where the rod meets the piston. Any automotive machine shop can easily do this operation.

Are you sure its 1mm? The machine shop guy said he could do it but it would be $65. So i just want to make sure that i get it right the first time.

yeah thats the magic number..I had ma ls rods fitted with ctr pistons and i had ma machine shop shave 1mm off each side of the small end of the ls rods. This is option is recommended for proper piston/rod clearance..

piston vs rod? which is better and why?
slightly off topic but usefeul.. to the OP.. why dont you use P61 pistons?? they fit perfectly onto your LS rods, with no need to machine.. even slightly dished, they equal if not slightly more compression than the P72

Well this is just a thrown together build, i just happened to have these pistons sitting in my garage and i go to a technical school so the machineing is free so i figured i would just use these. For future reference though what motor do the P61s come out of?

Try to get the Ls crank and use the ls rods and the gsr pistons. Might need to do some moving on the oil squirters but shouldnt be too hard.

P61 pistons.. are a direct fit into LS rods, they come out of the B17.. or 92-93 integra GSr
pistons should be able to swivel freely on the rod, with minimum side-side mvement
