engine build advice
ok let me start off with I searched... im not trying anything new...im just trying to compile data in a centraized location....all these things have been done before im just trying to get definite answers. OK i have a 95 civic ex coupe its going into paint soon so i have to get a motor together for it... I have a 91/92 ish B16a sirII bla bla
I am waiting on a 4.4fd type r lsd tranny. and i have 1 95 gsr block. ok heres the questions..
I purchased new timing covers for the B16 if i put the b16 head onto the gsr block which timing cover will work the upper or lower?
I purchased ARP head studs for the b16 at the same time (timing belt broke) will these work for the b16 head on the gsr block also?
I am using stock rods/crank but considering PCT's or p30's i dunno... any suggestions?
When inspected, if the bore is ok and I stay 81mm can I just hone the cylinders.. and is this something I can handle myself? I have a sound knowledge of automotive repair.
Some one informed me of a process where you grind material off the rod and crank journal cap and RE-hone the I.D. is this a process I need or is it too indepth for my simple rebuild? Align hone journals? or just throw new bearings in it.. ACL'S? OEM?
How to replace valve GUIDES? Is this something I can do myself?
Or will the machine shop have to handle this one?
i know this is referred to as a poormans typer (i dont want to argue about PMTR ot LS-VTEC) but tuned on CROME is this setup far from 200whp with good cams valves/springs/retainers and manifold and a good 2.5" header and exhaust?
thanks in advance for any help
Doug

gsr block with b16 head on jdm p30 will give you around 11.6 compression
gsr block with b16 head on jdm pct will give you around 12 compression
runnings 12 on the street is pushing it. even if your tuned really well. match your compression to the cams you got. i think it would be hard to get 200whp with the p30 make sure you got a damn good header you might have to work the head. it will be easier to get 200whp with the pct's but it still hard to do. good luck man

http://technet.ff-squad.com/cr-calculator.htm yeah i found this a while back.....I was just wondering about 12:1 on the street that answers one question...
I wont cry if im 10 or so shy at the wheel from 200...I just want more than the b16 I have now..

Re: (CBEengineering)
actually the pct's give you about 12.8:1 on a b18 block with b16 head.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=717928
read that
go with p30's they will yield about 11.6-11.8:1 which is fine. and if you search with skunk 2 pro 1 cams people are easily making 200whp with the setup.

Re: (killerpenguin21)
thats what i thought
i figured if it can be done with a b16, 200 wasnt far fetched with basically a R motor.....i might consider sending the head somewhere, I read that the valve guides take a special procedure to put in so thats one more question answered so while im doing that I can prolly get a light porting done to get me closer to that mark...................... now if some one can fill me in on the timing covers, head studs, and the machine work i can get this started

Re: (CBEengineering)
im only planning on running the lower timing cover so youd use the onw from whatever block your using. you should use gsr/itr arp headstuds.
machine work wise...so far ive had to hone the block, shot peen the rods, and im gonna prolly have my crank balanced and polished a little since one journal is a little scrathced. head wise you need one of the oil journals opened up a little i believe...im not positive tho since i havent gotten that far
