Default Duration and Lift on cams ... What does it all mean???

Well my question is what exactly duration and lift reflects on the power curve. I heard one person saying that 3 deg of duration will shift the peak power by 100rpm higher. So can someone with deeper understanding of camshafts explain what this exactly means. I think this would be very beneficial to those that are not just looking at peak power output but overall area under the curve.

Thanks,

Rafal
