Default Diff between head and a block

what is the difference between a head and a block in an engine? can u show me pics and tell what the difference is. Also can u mix and match different heads and blocks? basically i jus dont get what the difference is

You have much to learn sir, but everyone has to start somewhere. The head bolts on top of the block. The block is just the large metal casting where the rotating assembly resides. The head basically closes off the cylinders and houses the valvetrain and the camshaft system (in these honda heads). Here's a link you'll find highly useful. Engine

those are some serious clean *** f*ck block and head...

compares to human anatomy

veins & arteries = harness
mouth & nose = air intake
lungs & = air filter & oil fitler
hearts = cams
***** & anus = exhaust
brain = ecu
neck = head studs bolts
eyes & arms = steering wheel
diaphram = combustion champers
legs = wheels

hehe anyone can think of more?

not to be a *** but if you don't know the difference between a block and a head you should propably not be wonering about swaping heads

So does this mean turbo motors are like old men on oxygen. That doesn't seem very high performance to me.
