D16z6 build questions.
My NA d16z6 build is going to be as follows then I have a few questions.
Head:
Port polish
3 angle valve job
Bisi 2 cam
Bisi cam gear
Bisi valve springs and retainers
Arp head studs
High comp HG
Bottom end:
P29 pistons 75.5mm
Stock shot-peened rods.
New wrist pins
Acl rod and main bearings
Arp rod bolts
My questions are, I know I need to run high octane fuel that's a given, with this being a DD What are the dangers If I put 91?
And if I wanted to go bisi X cam he recommends ems, for this light of a build does it really warrant ems? Or would a apexi afc neo be good?
Also I have some friends recommending resleeving but this also seems to much for a light build such as this.
If I have any more questions I'll post replys.
Thank you so much HT!

Re: D16z6 build questions.
No need to resleeve with even a 76mm piston. IMO you dont need a levelX cam. Not enough compression dont waste anymore money on the build. You can tune it for 91 octane and you will be just fine. Dont expect anymore than 140-160whp from this though. Although it will make way more tq than going with a b16 swap.
If your goals are to get more than that kind of hp, save your money and build a 1.8. It may cost you more, but you will get more out of it.

Re: D16z6 build questions.
Thanks for the info and yeah I know it's a sohc but it's a daily that I wanted a little pep out of so despite the comment about Na sohc leaving me disappointed, I'll be satisfied with whatever the outcome.
But in terms of the ems question, no matter what cam I'm using is a ems necessary? Or even a apex neo afc? I was thinkin lvl x cam because of the range of performance it gives in terms of rpm range, the lv 2 is smaller. Although probably not noticeable, if I did decide to go lv x cam would an afc be fine or would I need a fully tunable ems?
And sleeving, I'm only going 75.5 for a little more displacement. So thanks for the reassurance about not resleeving.
Thanks again

Re: D16z6 build questions.
If you want to go bigger than his level2 , he does have a level3. Which would require valvespring upgrade. No need for an ems at that point. The levelX as it is called. Is pretty much for all out race applications. I wouldnt use it in a daily driver, or any other "Race Only" cam for that matter.
But with the plans you have for the engine, you should have someone tune it once it is complete.

Re: D16z6 build questions.
A level x cam is more for racing than your normal street build like this, a level 2 cam will be just what you need
But it looks like a good solid sohc build its what I always wanted to do untill I went dohc, but I would look at diffrent pistons because those P29s have a super high dome on them that I don't like

Re: D16z6 build questions.
You could have spent the money you did on all those bisi parts (that don't come cheap) and got vitara pistons and a turbo kit and you would be stomping B swaps all day..... It would also be very reliable and still good on gas (pump gas)....
Sorry I know this is not useful at all but the words N/A and D series should never mix...
ok bye.

Re: D16z6 build questions.
hmmm... I guess you could do that. But lets see. Reliable & ebay dont mix.. So for me to get a "Reliable" turbo kit (built , installed & tuned) would cost between $2500-$3000 from a Reputable company/shop.. I highly doubt he will have that into his build. And thats not including the vitara pistons & rods..
With his mod/wish list he will be able to stomp on most zero TQ b16 swaps, and plenty of real B series powered cars.

Re: D16z6 build questions.
Thanks for all the great replys! Yeah I'm going to go with the 2 or 3 lvl x is too big of a cam for my daily application, probably will just get a 3 and use 93/94 octane... It's available right around the corner.
I do need to find a tuning shop here... I haven't even looked.
I like the p29 pistons because of the high dome, I'm staying unmilled so I'm not worried about any unwanted valve contact. And they are readily available and cheap with brand new wrist pins. I'm looking at 12.5/1 comp probably with my setup on 93 octane and that's my expection. With all the replys I'm getting I think this is a great build for me as well it being my first.
In a 93 eg everyone is saying I have to run edel intake Mani instead if s2, because of contact at high rev? The s2 too long? Is there any other IMs I can run that are just as good?

And also what can I really get tuned without EMS? My buddy recommended a tuner but I guess he only deals with EMS on hondas. :/

Lol I read you the first time, anyways, I hear gsr throttle body works with no problem but isn't the cable spindle backwards? And does this build require wide piping? I'm sitting on 2 1/4 in. I'm not sure if that's big enough.
