If you thought "compression don't make sense", then you're certainly not making 200hp N/A from a d-series.

What is wrong with SOHC's?

I have no Idea about D's but I'm pretty sure not all SOHC engines are garbage. Seems to me there is one SOHC F22 that I know of that is doing alright.

Where in this thread did anyone say there was something wrong with SOHC's?

Im pretty sure he's referring to the single cam D series that this thread is all about. I know youre looking for an opportunity to defend your beloved powerplant but no one insulted it here.

exactly.. no need to defend the D (cuz i never get why u have to lol)

was never put down in this thread..

i just got confused on the "EK9 200whp D" part

being that ek9's are the CTR's so.. sumwer along the line the b16b was ditched for a D ?

There's no way you're gonna make 200hp on a D series without Forced induction, it just won't happen. No one put down the D series in this thread. A D16 is a good platform for forced induction, but def. not all motor...it has a long stroke which makes it shitty for high revs and already rather low compression ratio which limits its n/a output from the get go.

just with a healthy shot of nitrous

what if i sleeve it, get a smaller piston, and call up honda to make perfect dome for 200hp... still no hope... cuz i'll re-nege on my damn... if forced upon thru insufficient undefined chances...

Lets not forget the low displacement, small chamber size, single cam opening both sets of vavles (unable to tune intake and exhaust independently), weak rods, and rivet-sized rod bolts.
Has anyone ever made 200 whp N/A with an d-series? I think you'll be dumping over 10k into parts and R&D into that just to bring it to the level of an all oem parts b-series build that would get you to your goal, and for a quarter of the cost. Save the D for some light boost. That's about all they're REALLY good for. Or, invest in another series engine like the B, or possibly even H, which would be more cost effective, or if you have the dough a K setup.

Did he ever say 200whp or did most of you just assume that?
All he said was 200hp.

And with that parts list, it'll be impossible to make even 200 crank hp.
