Check Engine light@ High rpm?? Need help ASAP
Ok here is the senerio I was driving my car and I was pulling right out of second gear and going into third and my engine felt like it hit a revlimiter or something not saying that it did but it felt like that. Instantly the cars check engine like came on and and I pulled into my friends drive way the car went to 1500 rpm and stayed there which is not normal and my car was blowing black smoke out of the exaust. After observing the smoke and idle I concluded that it is not coolant getting past the gasket, I turned the car off and turned over agian everything went back to normal check engine light went off and car idle fine. I drove back to my apartment on the way didnt rev past 3500 parked checked oil made sure it was toped off and all other flued check fuel pr reg fine and everthing was normal. I went to start the car take it around the block hit about 5000rpm and same thing happened all over agian check engine light and black smoke restarted the car everything back to normal.. Please help
b18c1 skunk2 mani jun cams cam gears lifters springs 93 octane pump gas msd ignition aem fuel rail dc headers apex exaust jun chipped p28 ecu. the check engine light comes on when I hit about 5000 rpm and then throughs the light. I can stop the car turn it off and then back on and the car runs fine no check engine light as long as I keep it at a low rpm and I have my oil toped off. however when it happened the first time the oil was low. maybe a quart or two was in there.

instead of everyone guessing whats wrong. why not check your cel and get the code like your supposed to do. id think someone with a gsr motor and jun cams would have enough knowledge what a cel light is for ??

Yes, I do know what a cell light is and I know I have to check the code, however I would like to know if someone with a simular problem has experienced this. Judging from your unhelpful comments which a lot of people have around here you have not had this happen to you. If someone has had a simular problem it would be very helpful to know what it is before hand and maybe prevent the problem in the future. Thanks for the reply though

with the way the car idled and smoked black after the cel my 1st guess would be a map sensor problem

well actually my buddies gsr had his breather box falling off on the back of the block and oil would squirt out at high rpms and fall onto the exhaust and cause black smoke everywhere, and sometimes the cel would come on for 02. which is a pretty random problem and the chance of that being your problem is pretty slim. so why play what if game and just check the cel code.

The CEL is a tool for diagnosing engine problems.Use it. Pull the code and the esteemed members of H-T will have a much better chance of guessing, err I mean troubleshooting, your problem.

I bet you its a vtec related code. I had the same problem before on a b16a. It was one of the really late model jdm b16 and had no oil pressure switch on the side of the solenoid for some reason. So we jumped the harness and drove the car. Ran great until third then it threw the light and had an early fuel cut everytime. We drilled and tapped the housing and installed a new switch and that fixed it. I think the ecu looks for a certain amount of fluctuation from it ? Maybe its something mechanical, or the switch or solenoid acting up on you.

i had the same problem... and it came back TPS sensor.. injectors were maxed out and the check light would always come on at WOT. bigger injectors and a new tune cure that..

It was throwing the code for map sensor but was do to a vacum line that was plugged on the skunk2 mani

I'm having the same issue, I changed my tps sensor recently and everytime VTEC in engaged and the rpm goes 7000+ the CEL light would come on.
After running the code, I get a code 6 which is the ECT sensor which was changed recently as well.
However the CEL doesn't show when the rpms are at 6000+.
Could it possibly be that maybe a retune is in order and clear the code and it would fix the issue?
My car is a 2000 Honda Torneo Euro R
