Cam comparison
how do stage one cams differ from eachother compared to lets say, itr/ctr cams?
as far as price for function, are they worth it?
looking at stage one:
skunk2
wicked
crower
good old itr/ctr
and anything else you can pitch around

Re: Cam comparison (phantom_sol)
Most of the aftermarket company's stg 1 cams are not a great deal more aggressive than ctr cams. Skunk2's stg 1 cams for instance have nearly identical lift as CTR cams. They do add some duration(+9I & +14E) however and as such are not entirely without merit. Crower's stg 1 cams add even less at +6I & +5E. Many factors come into play in determining which cams to go with, some factors are less obvious than others, factors such as ABDC & your local emission control laws for instance, but in general I'd probably stick with CTR cams if I wanted a slightly more aggressive cam profile. They're generally cheaper and more reliable than any aftermarket cam I'm familiar with.

thank you very much.
it will be going into a b18c1 with jdm itr pistons.
i have a b16 head and i didnt think i would be able to get the most out of the engine otherwise.
will the ctr/itr cams work well with supertech valve train?
i wanted to upgrade valve trian while i was at it cause i didnt know what condition the stock (95) valvetrain was.
so ctr/itr is best bang for buck? awsome
either way, thanks for your timely responce.

Re: (phantom_sol)
I'm not familiar with the specs on the supertech valvetrain components, but changing valvetrain components is unnecessary in your situation with CTR/ITR cams unless you increase the redline. If you do want to change valvetrain components then ITR components are perfectly adequate and in fact more optimal than a spring with a high seat pressure which will only increase wear and may decrease output however slightly.
Swapping cams to CTR/ITR cams is a worthwhile modification when combined with cam gears, tuning, and possibly something to move your VTEC x-over point around(VAFC...Hondata...etc).
