bent valves on b18c motor

bent valves on b18c motor
i have a jdm gsr motor with skunk2 stage 2 cams, skunk2 manifold, ericks racing computer, p30 pistons and a jdm dc 4to1 header and a aem intake. i was installing sprocktes and timing wouldnt line up. i didnt know why i wouldnt line up i have miss shifted a couple of times before but nothing that serious. i took the head off to realize that 4 valves are bent. can any one tell me why they got bent

it was lined up to top dead center and after we would tighten the tentioner the sprocket would move off in high degrees,so my buddy thought he should tighten the sprocket on more and as he did the valves got bent?they were the jg black & gold ones.

That's very odd... aren't those supposed to be able to handle 9k without any problems? Maybe it had to do with the sprockets not being totally aligned? I've read that certain cam gears are hard to get to line up properly
