B20VTEC experiences with stock block
Alright, I am looking for real world experiences, not hearsay. I currently have a B20B motor in my car, and I was contemplating throwing this B16 head on it. Stock head, stock block. I know it should be fine, even with cam gears. But my question is.. how far can you take it before valve to piston contact? ITR cams, Jun cams, whatever.. let me know your personal experiences. If I have ITR cams in there and I dial it in on the dyno to +4 intake and -1 exhaust, will I be alright?
Also, what kind of power are you guys seeing? This is a VERY basic setup.
B16A head with stock cams and ITR intake manifold
B20B block, rebuilt.. but bone stock
stock airbox, stock header, 2.25" exhaust and Crome
thanks guys.

My setup:
B20b Bottom Stock
B16a3 Head milled (don't remember how much)
GSR intake cam, B16 exhaust cam
Skunk2 IM
AN-R Header
30k on the motor! wiht no maintaince, and I can rev to 9500rpm.

You're not making power with a gsr intake cam and b16 exhaust cam to 9500rpm.

Yeah, but he has veetak, so he has to rev close to 10k or his car won't be fast.

Here's a dyno of my friend's:
Red is Baseline no tuning, Blue is with tuning.
Stock B20Z, Stock Gsr Head, Skunk2 IM, 98 ITR cams, forgot what intake AEM V2 I thinks, GSR DC 4-1, Greddy Sp2, Hondata S200.
Didn't break 200 but very close.
Has AC and PS too. No problems yet, runs like a stock GSR motor with more power.

what were his cam settings at? this is the main purpose of my question. i'm sure ITR cams would be fine in my motor @ 0,0 but what if i decide to start advancing the **** out of the intake cam? thanks for all the replies so far, guys.
I know i don't. But my P30 got stolen, so I got a p28 mugen chipped for a good price, and that was the rev limit, and it still pulls on the butt dyno til at least 8700, but that is a guess, since I don't have a tach that even goes to 9500.
But my best time with this setup was 14.2 with a broken axle. And best MPH was 103. I haven't tracked it since then, since I pretty much got out of racing.

Thats not bad at all and I figured my car isn't making any power and its built a built block minus sleeves and minus any head work...It feels slow now.
My buddies build that I helped with:
Stock B20 bottom end (USDM CR-V)
Mildly worked GSR head (ported, milled alhtough not sure how much)
JUN stage 3 cams (clearence issues during vtec engagement cured with a dremel)
ITR plenum
JUN header
205whp ~150wtq
I have before and after pictures of the pistons if you want.

my old setup was:
stock B20b block
stock b16a head w/ ITR cams at 0,IN 0,ex
upgrade p05 ecu
stock b16 manifold stock LS header
UNTUNED
ran 13.4 @ 104mph w/ 22' HOOSIER Drag Radial

I think he had them at 0,0 because of the valve clearance.

just got some CTR cams, no clearance issues at 0,0... made a HUGE difference in power, stock b16a1 cams suckkkk
plan on getting dynoed soon to see what it puts down, deffinately think I am going to break 200 whp, i love my b20vtec

the b20vtecs i have put together that i have clayed would start interfering at 3 degrees advanced on the intake side and i have never gone as far to have any problems on the exhaust . being that i don't know how much was milled off of of any of the heads i put on. I would clay the engine at different degrees of advance and retard. byw i bought all the parts for my swap in 2001 from you at naples acura.
good luck.
good luck.
