Re: B20 non-vtec FAQ Guide including P8R head information
You non vtec guys with the high comp, what are you all seeing as far as max ignition timing? Ive seen anywhere from 27-32 degrees at WOT on some of these other maps ive looked at.
Anyone else here have crower 403's by chance? I was kinda surprised by the smoothness of the idle here, but i also have my ignition timing cranked up to like 20-22 degrees at idle to keep it holding steady.
nevermind the blue smoke, motor isnt broken in yet, its only been running 30 minutes lol

The P3F or PHK marking on the back lower section of the block is no idication of the pistons that are in it. I pulled my motor apart and my block said P3F but it had PHK pistons.

Re: B20 non-vtec FAQ Guide including P8R head information
P3F on motor mean the bloc is 2L
as pr3 use for b16a bloc
And i just discovered that..; it is not ALL tne 99 - 00 that have a Knock sensor and PHK as sayd in first page.
On youtube you can find a vidéo of B20b compression test. result is 165 psi... Big Crap !!
P3F pistons have 200 psi
PHK is 215 psi
i will install the 'notched' PHK that i have here, so by the way i will have the block decked by 20 tow.
as i run P8R head, shaved by 25 tow i guess i will be around 10:1CR
and 225 psi compression.
I will run Crower 404
as pr3 use for b16a bloc

The B20b 9.2:1CR i always ask myself how it was done...
but there is 2 set of P3F pistons ( P3F 9.2:1CR and P3F AO 8.8:1CR ) and 1 of PHK that is 9.6:1CR
THE 99 b20 jdm, no knock, equiped of the Giraff intake that i just purchasse is P3F not P3F AO and made 200 psi compression.
My friend b20z had 215 psi compression
mium mium informations

Re: B20 non-vtec FAQ Guide including P8R head information
I just picked up a jdm b20b with a p75 head with a knock sensor.. I also have a blown b20 with a super clean p8r head. I know if i swap heads ill drop Comp. Is there a benifit if i swap to the p8r and leave it stock? Im looking to use the p8r head but not looking into having to machine anything to fit. Id like to build the p8r with OEM parts that can bump up power. I have read all over the interwebz on putting ls cam's in but no sound information about it. the motor is in a 92 teg with all the oem parts. I was reading into maybe putting a b18b intak manifold and tb LS cams maybe a light polish and ports cleaning the head up. Will this make or break me? Im not looking into making mass power just looking into using what i have laying around. Since its just sitting in my garage. Is there a cam that will let me use my stock valvetrain and at the same time bump up my hp? Im looking for drop and roll parts lol. Not looking into having to machine the block and head for cams and what not. I hope i make sense.

so if i have a fully built b20 bored to 86mm b16head
sleeve it for future means
but all motor for now. piston rods cranks cams valves lsd
all the goods
would it be a reliable daily driver
and still redline those 9000 rpms on those odd days ????
pump gas and great tune ????<<<<<

Stick around a while and do some searching and reading on here.. you got a plan, now see what you will need to achieve it.

Re: B20 non-vtec FAQ Guide including P8R head information
I can machine the head. I just want to avoid having to do so in order to put anything in aftermarket. I have already have the head polished cleand and checked for any warp. Now that it is clean and ready i want to upgrade it and avoid having to make another trip to the shop.

What plugs are you guys running with the itr clones? Parts store was out of my trusty bkr7e-11's, I grabbed some 6's because I was thinking of giving them a shot anyway (since my cr is lower than i originally thought). I'll keep an eye on them, worst case I have to go back to 7's and I'm out $10.

Well, Heres an update:
I got everything in. Started right up. Immediately tuned the idle to 14.1-14.9.
Got a nice lope to the idle. I have yet to tune it. Maybe this weekend.

Cool thanks for the link. I'm in for a review on them. My stock ones are a little tired but I couldn't justify $400 or whatever it is for the Hasports. I also don't want anything that's too stiff for the daily.

Re: B20 non-vtec FAQ Guide including P8R head information
Well, these are the 62a and they still vibrate. I came from HardRace before these and they had a little vibe to them.. these are a little more vibe then hardrace's.
But they hold the engine quite well. If your not going for bling factor of aluminum, these are perfect.
Not really. I have a few pics in profile of engine progress to now.
