b18c vs h22 typs s
Looking to do a swap into my 89 civic dx for racing purposes. I was just about to put the b18c type r in it when i thoughy, how would a h22 type s stand up to racing at high rpm for siginificant periods of time.. say minimal 30 mins non stop...
i kno the h22 type s has more power and specially more torque which would be perfect for getting out of those corners. Is there anything i need to know about it? which engine is better?
also has anyone heard or knows of the Spoon Sports B18C Integra Type-R Engine?

I have pondred this question many times and as recently as yesterday so I think I can help without flaming you.
H22 type S Pros: Cheaper, More HP and torque
Cons: Adds 60 lbs to front end, almost custom everything
B18C5 Pros: Easy swap, high reving
Cons: About $2,000 more expensive
K20 Pros: Most HP and torque, be the first on your block with
one, lighter than both, bolt ons make crazy power
Cons: Swap not figured out yet, Uber-expensive
As you can see it depends on what type of racing and your budget. For the best handling and power output go with a K20, for drag go with the H22, if you have a modest budget go with a B18C. In my opinion the B18C5 is not worth the extra money over a B18C.

that does help. However my question is how does the h22 hold up in comparison to the b18c. Are the internals strong, what does it rev to and how stable it is at high revs? (are the h22's zerio balanced?)

If you are worried about reving and road racing my advice is B18C.

If you are comparing stock engines for your chassis, go with b series for road racing. Especially if you are looking for a higher redline and better gear ratios/better tranny altogether.
Type-s is not gonna be worth your money. You are better off picking up a regular h22a and building it to get better power for the money.

first off they are both very good motors. but for your purpose i would have to go with a b18c5.
if i remember correctly the type s tranny is different from the rest of the h series tranny and will not mount in properly with most mount kits, (correct me if im wrong anyone)
and i dont know if there are any mount kits avialable for the h22 into a ef hatch.
now there will most likely be a problem if you used that engine with the oil pan clearance and the header. so you wouldnt be able to lower it too much.
you said you are gonna autocross so you would want a quick high reving motor.
the B18C5 is built for that purpose. it would also be alot easier to put that engine in a ef than a H22 in a ef hatch with the right setup the B18c5 will be plenty.

ima have to say b18c5/r.......it's simply not worth putting an h22 in an ef for starters, it would be a pretty dumb idea for your purpose, way more work than you want. Secondly, so what if an h22 adds a little weight over the front, they don't "push" if set-up properly, but a b IS lighter and thats ALWAYS better. The H is going to be much harder on the front tires, and much much harder to drive fast, it's a handful, trust me, but can be very quick, i would know i autox a 00 civic si and an h22 eh3. The em1 is much more balanced and infinitely easier to modulate around corners....heres a good example, on my 3rd run in the em1 ive gotten my best time......on my 10th run in my h22 eh3 im still getting better times everytime out...it sucks when you get your fastest time in fun runs, the only advantage i see for an h22 in course racing is that in autox you can just stick it in 2nd gear and forget about shifting........anyway I'm done if you have any more specific questions ask, and running an h22 to 7500 rpm over and over again shouldnt be too hard on it I do it all the time ..........John
