Default 84/84.5/85mm moderate CR cast piston selections

could some of you post up the pistons you went with when building these sized bore engines? personally im going with 84.5 but post the others too, might help someone else out.

i was under the impression that RS machines made an 84.5 ITR piston. i just got off the ohone with them and that isnt exactly the case. so now its back to square one with pistons selection and measurements.

what did they tell you? Their pistons are posted up everywhere as 11.5:1 itr style piston. I know eugene has used them more then a couple of times. I know ur buddy chris is a fan of them too.

well he told me that its ITR style. coudlnt specify jdm/usdm im not saying its a bad piston. im sure its awesome. however, one cant make exact measurements for clearance and compression if the pistons exact measuremetns arent known.

"style" = extra half a point compression jsut coming out of nowhere.

what if i assume its a usdm itr and its a jdm itr "style" and the valve pockets arent in the exact place i thought they would be?

i want something with little or no dome at all. call me a dipshit all you want but im considering buying a forged turbo 9.5ish:1 piston, taking the head down .040'' or so and taking a little out in the VP area. dont chisel those numbers in stone but thats just my general way of thinking right now.

the problem is, im shying away from forged pistons becuase of

a. a little because of price but not too much
b. i dont want to **** with crazy piston to wall clearances, expansion rates and silicon content. a cast piston is plenty strong for a 11.5ish:1 motor thats not going to see over 8500ish rpms.

Check with Rocket, he had some fully coated, flat-top, forged 84.5 pistons at a good price, with rings.

Check with DonF he's better at customer service than I am. I don't have a high tolerance for newbies anymore.

I can't deal with people measuring the piston by sticking them through the head gasket and seeing how much "play" there is at the crown of the piston.

I prefer doing wholesale

Then I guess you will not be using OMNI springs. Probe has a good piston price, not coated, or as light, but cheaper.

LOL.

Anyways, Don was pointing you in a good direction. The Probe reference you can file as being "humurous."

Not necessarly, I am a Probe dist. and they are better than cast, and only a little more in cost. Agood deal when you are on a budget, or not really serious about building a motor.

youre the one that invented the chicken/egg cliche arent you.

im considering giving the exospeed guy some specs and coming up with something "custom" so im not hacking away at an OEM piston. ****** CRX didnt come with a prune juice holder either. pos

Then why am I don juan de flores, not my given name. Are you just stupid? I am proud of my heritage, slights of my name do not sit well. Or should I just call you Deftones de wop, and we are even?

don, is alzheimers already setting in or did you forget about the gigantic **** you took on the entire u.s. military? honestly i dont give a **** what you call me, and i dont give a damn what your name is.

if your senile *** cant even show a lick of respect for the men i have put into plastic bags, then guess what? im not even going to show you the respect of calling you by your ******* name. so...i dont care what it is. now put that in your corncob pipe and smoke it.

:metamucil: here, mix a little of that with 8 ounces of cold water. now spin around and toss it on your *** to put out that fire.

uh is this thread still open for talk about pistons? i went with the RS pistons in 84.5mm

im assuming that RS told you about head clearance issues with an 81mm head? my head was 84mm so it wasnt an issue for me but you might have to run a thicker HG or open the chamber up a bit.

anyway the domes arent huge but they are USDMish and are supposed to be in the neighborhood of 11.5:1 i havent gotten an exact measurement from anyone but they seem to be working fine in my motor.

heres a picture of the dome, of BTW they sit about .004 in the hole

yea i talked to him about those. i was stupid to think i could do my clearances and CR off of oem honda 81mm piston measurements and assume these were identical. the nippons arent bad.
