As far as I know K24a2 has bigger primary lobes than K20a or a2 and smaller vtec lobes than Type-S or Type-R K20a cams. Some one correct me if im wrong

Just what you're looking for:

I would go with 06+ tsx cams.

Thanks. Well I found some k20a cams for only 250 shipped and I heard that the k24a2 cams are really conservative which is half way good but I want my vtec to hit nice. I commute everyday but it's not like I'm going to be running into vtec at all on the highway so I'm really interested in them.

You should definitely join.. you'll find a lot more actual K series info/tech there.

Well, I scored a brand new set of '06 TSX cams recently (thanks to d5civic!) and have access to a brand new set of DC5-R cams. So i took it upon myself to shoot comparison pics of both cam sets. I did this same thing for B-series engines a few years ago.

First thing I looked for was any markings, numbers, anything at all, that would make either cam set stand apart from each other. What urks me is that I'm not sure what 02-04 & 05-06 Type-S markings may share or have on their own in contrast to these 2 cam sets. Although I believe the 05-06 Type-S use DC5-R cams now if I'm not mistaken.

So here's what I found.
I'll let the pictures do the talking.

I'm not sure if the "Rx" numbers are a definite way of telling K-series OEM cams apart. I need to get my hands on Type-S cams and 04-05 TSX cams to be reassured.

Now right off the bat, when eye balled the lobes, there was signifigant differences with the primary & secondary lobes on both intake and exhaust bump sticks... (I might have my primaries & secondaries mixed up, but you get the idea).

So that's it for now!
I plan to use both TSX cams in my K20R w/RBC manifold and do a baseline dyno run as well as a tuned run.

Anyone care to let me borrow a set of 02-04 type-S & 04-05 TSX cams for knowledge sakes?

:cool::up:
As you can see the vtec lobe on both cams are about the same, but the primary lobes are a lot bigger on the k24a2 which should give you a lot more low/midrange power compared to the k20a cams. The top end will be very similar between the two. If you want your car to make more power everywhere you should go with the 06+ k24a2 cams. If you want vtec to "hit" harder then you should go with the k20a cams and set the vtec activation point higher, but you're car will be slower. For a daily driver I believe the k24a2 cams will be better due to their larger primary lobes. I wouldn't upgrade to either set of cams unless you plan on having the car tuned as you won't see much of, if any, gain otherwise with either set.

Hope this helps.

Whoever said this is totally wrong. The 06 TSX cams are the biggest stock K-series cams you can get. Second to the 04s if I am not mistaken.

lots of google searching led me to this thread......I have a K24A2. I want a cam that will get me better milage (if possible) on the low cam. and same (or more) power on the high cam. Do you think I can achieve this with the 02 RSX/S cams? Im willing to loose some power on the low cam, as economy is really important.

K24a2 cams have a larger primary lobe on the intake and exhaust. but have a smaller secondary(vtec) lobe on the intake. the secondary is still larger on the exhaust side. check this out http://www.hondata.com/tuning_the_tsx.html
