Who wants a racing "header" for your third gen TL 2004+.
if you would like a real 2004+ TL racing header from the same person that made them for the factory acura racing team
read on
my boss has a 2006 Tl and more money than he knows what to do with so he wants the same "header" the factory sponsored team used on their TL back in late 04 early 05 at the 24HR thunderhill enduro.
[2005 march issue of honda tuning mag]
they stated that the header released 15hp and 17ftlbs on a mule engine, but it looks like it was more 30hp with the hondata

I decided to call the original makers of the "header" and came up with
Joe McCarthy

i sent him this email

hello
i would like to know if your company would be able to make a "header" for my 2006 TL.
i just need it to start after the first cats and stop before the third cat.
its supercharged [comptech] and has the pro cats from eshift.
i spoke with fullrace but rather you make it for me. since your company made it for the race team.
thanks

cost is not an issue

Hi JP,
I guess the 'subject' line says it all, RACING means no CATS.
That's what I built for Honda's TL and Baja Ridgeline, and if it's still got CATS it's not a racing header.
It was the removal of the CATS that made the 30 HP improvement, that and a little ECU tuning.
Consequently if I did what you wanted me to you'd see very little if any gain, either in torque or HP.
Superchargers and turbochargers are very sensitive to pumping losses either in the intake or exhaust, so a substantial amount of the boost your engine is seeing is purely a function of the exhaust being restrictive and to a large degree the CATS are responsible for that condition.
Removing the CATS would very likely produce a drop in boost pressure and most certainly an increase in torque and HP, AND make the engine much happier since the EGT would be reduced as well.
I've already built production fixtures for the pipes as I built them for Honda, and if enough of the TL community decides they want this exhaust system I'll do a production run of them.
As it is currently development of my intercooled M62 supercharged K20A-Elise keeps me plenty busy, and the new M90-based system I'm developing now should keep me busy for some time to come.
I stopped building headers as a business about 8 years ago, so the only thing that will motivate me is if enough TL guys want to go for the existing setup I built for my friends at Honda.
Money isn't a motivating factor for me, it's the R&D that I love.
So talk it up a bit and see if there are 50 guys willing to get rid of their CATS and gain some power.
I've already talked it over with my friends at Hondata, and they're willing to do it as a package deal with an ECU reflash.
Comptech came to Hondata for ECU tuning, so I'm sure we could do a special tune for your car as well.
Take care,
Joe</TD></TR></TABLE>

you cannot make a header for a car where it's already cast into the cylander head
see illustration for 04+ TL below
#2 is what you need to look at.
you are removing the cat and putting in a straight pipe and that is where the gains come from.....don't waste your cash on him...

he actually made the"header"/ "test pipe" for our engines..
why not try it?... acura thought it would improve performance.
its like saying that a stock b16 exh manifold is perfect and we dont need a header to make power...
30 hp is significant, & the cats already cost 1k from eshift
remember it wont pass smog because of no cats
but we live in FL so we dont have to worry...

Re: (formby)
removing a catalytic converter is ILLEGAL in MOST states would be the first reason that comes to mind......
and it isn't a header, got it? it's a test pipe and I like the ability to be able to breathe.... thanks the the pollution that the catalytic converter removes from the air.........

i know its a test pipe thats why the word header is under "" [AND I INCLUDED THE WORD TEST PIPE AFTER]. i was just trying to help people understand its function better and since we cant buy a header for this car this is the closest thing to one.
and if you dont want to be included in the list then FU<K off....you dont have to be... dont post
i dont really care about you being able to breathe or the fact that you dont like taking off the cats. you arent that important to me [i dont know you]
its a racing peace END OF STORY
get it?
that means the cats come out...
and BTW why are you trying to ruing my thread?
i'm just trying to find people that would like it.
you dont like it and thats fine. you dont have to buy it.
have a nice day big guy

Re: (formby)
Idiots like you who remove the pollution controls from their cars are the reason that the rest of us who do things LEGALLY have so many troubles. It won't be long before the GLOBAL WARMING ***** come to FL and get the law changed.....
Are you so desperate for HP that you would even consider doing something like this?
and before you say it won't happen look around and see what the government has already told you that you cannot do.......
read this
http://www.dep.state.fl.us/law...s.pdf
it won't be long before that catalytic converter law changes..... they have already started with fluids being improperly disposed of.....

I took the fixtures along with the original pipes from Honda's TL to the
best production facility I know yesterday to get a quote on a production run
of 50 units.
Once I get the quotation from them I'll let you know what the
cost will be and what the production time-frame will be once I have all of
the 50% deposits.
Once that's finalized I'll have them build 2 first article
units so we can do the ECU tuning [one N/A and one S/C], and for that we'll
need a couple of people on the list who are local to the L.A. area to
volunteer their cars for a couple of days so Doug can generate the new ECU
calibrations.
I suppose the only option will be whether or not some people want the
package deal with the Hondata ECU reflash or just the header on it's own.
Take care,
Joe

Catalytic converters are a FEDERAL requirement, not a state level requirement. Florida did away with emissions testing several years ago so there are no longer inspections of emissions equipment/performance but removing the catalytic converter on a roadgoing car is illegal. The fact that Florida no longer performs annual checks doesn't mean it's ok to remove emissions equipment.

ok
AND????
who said you HAVE to run the exhaust with out a cat?
you can buy a high flow cat for 50 bucks
[carb legal and all] and install it down the exhaust piping
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...photo
now what?
problem solved
unless you need to have the 3 cats to pass smog
this is the first time in my life were gear heads dont get exited about a race proven product. that no one else makes.

hehe
hey don't hate on cali
I ran catless for a while a little to loud for me and got scared since i live in cali.
But nice gains just from the cat removal. I wish i could gain that kind of power on my teg then I would be catless instead of my hi flow. nice
whats up with all the HATERS hehe

before i get into financial talks with this guy i want to know that i have a demographic.
so if i get at least 50 people who are willing to spend 1k+/- and really want it; i can get a better price than if i just talk like i'm dreaming.

But it's our responsibility to leave those in on a street car. Go nuts if it's a track car. But in a daily driven vehicle, there's so many other places to make power, removing the cats should not be in the top 5.
