Thinking about buying a CL
So I am looking at buying a new car, and the CL caught my eye. But I am wondering if there are any major problems with the car that I should be aware of or reoccuring problems. Also anything I should look out for when looking at them? For both the 97-99 and 01-03 body styles. Thanks for the help everyone.

Speaking of that.....I am buying an 03 6spd in the next year or so.....I was just informed they are ATTS trans. Being a Prelude guy, I am obviously not very fond of the ATTS system.
Has anyone has ATTS issues when using Nitrous or Superchargers?
I guess I foresee some sort of Non-ATTS Accord trans swap in the future......

Re: Thinking about buying a CL (SOHC4life 96)
1. Q/C issues on the American built units
2. 2nd gear (the actual gear) overheat due to lack of lubrication (fixed with an oil jet kit)
3. insufficient fluid flow when changing from 2-3rd gear causing the fluid to deteriorate and kill the clutch packs.....
NirVTEC,
I am not sure that the newer accord V6 manual trans will work as I think they are slightly smaller......

Blast the misinformation!
I re-read this is realized that the CLS 6spd is a HELICAL LSD not ATTS....
Reeling in all that power is a helical limited-slip differential that is essentially the latest version of Honda's Automatic Torque Transfer System, or ATTS, that was first seen on the 1997 Prelude Type SH.

The problem trannies were 01-03 cl autos.

My understanding was it was a bad batch of them......I don't think 02-03 was affected. I thought it was more like 99-01.

the 3.0CL is the same drive line as the 98-02 accord and thus sucks just as bad

Like I said in my IM.....I worked for Acura for 4yrs and we had 2-3 technicians dedicated to Auto trans swaps.....A new ECU was also included with the warranty replacement and I have to assume their were new shift points included.
Its not like EVERY J series trans is going to POP----its just something to be consious of. Will I buy an Auto J series? No....but its alot more to do with not buying an auto than not buying a Honda auto.
We had a guy that used to come to us for service that had an 01 with i/h/e+Nitrous and he never had a single trans issue......And Yes, he eventually melted the motor. Valves were fused to pistons and pistons were fused to sleeves....I wish I had pics! We quoted him $8k for the work......
