Considering an Acura TL

Considering an Acura TL
First post!
For a family car, we are considering an Acura TL, or a Toyota Avalon. The Avalon is nice and roomy, but the Acura has a sporty feel to it that I like.
We plan to buy a used one, maybe a 2001 model. Is there anything I should know about this model year, or are they rock solid in terms of reliability?
I know this being a Honda forum you all are perhaps a little biased but which of the two cars would make a better overall daily driver for a small family?
Thanks!

Re: Considering an Acura TL (Procrastinator)
The Acura TL is a great car, but there are some issues to be aware of.
1)Failing Transmission: Primarily a problem on 2002 models, but a 2001 TL can have this as well. However, acura has automatically extended the transmission warranty to 7 years/100,000 miles.
2)Weak Brakes: They arent that good and some people have experienced warped brakes every 30-40k miles.
3)Interior rattles: The sunroof rattles, and there are other various rattles in the car. They can be fixed at the dealer though.
Even though I am mentioning all these problems, I still would recommend the TL. My family has a 99TL, and we have not had any of the above problems, except for a rattle here or there. The Avalon is an extremely boring car, much more so than the TL. It's like a Toyota Buick dude.

Re: Considering an Acura TL (King_j)
i was going to insist you get the 2004 Tl, (all new) But the 2001 Tl's do sell around 20g's. So you do save 15gs..
-i agree that you should get the type s model. and get the navigation system. i've been a TL with a navigation system.. and that thing seems so advance.. it TALKS to you!! But if you get the 2004Tl, YOU can TALK to your car

I would definitely go with the TL. I have an 03 Type S and I really like it. There are a few picky things I would change about it if I could, but overall I have no real complaints- and absolutely no regrets about it. You are not likely to find a used one with navigation, but there is a website getauto.com that links you to hundreds of dealerships to see their inventory. Good luck. You may also be able to get a good deal on a lease or purchase of an 03 since they have a body style change in line for 04 !!
