'96 Acura TL getting hot quickly and then whistling
2.5 liter tl getting hot after only driving a couple miles. Then you can hear some whistling towards the rear of the engine underneath the distributor. Also i can see some antifreeze that has leaked out there on the wires and hoses back there too. I cant for the life of me find the leak back there. The car has antifreeze but still gets hot. My first thought is the thermostat but i changed it maybe 2 years ago. Also, you can hear anti freeze draining into the overflow reservoir after i shut the engine off. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Found a major leak in what is probably the water pump seal as there is a big leak coming from the timing belt cover. Going to do this tomorrow and am wondering if it's necessary to remove the belts and crankshaft pulley or can you get to the water pump by removing the upper portuon of the cover only? Yea, i changed the timing belt last year so i dont need to do another new one right now. Should've done the water pump at that time but was trying to save a few bucks and now regret it.

You're going to have to remove the crank pulley, there's no other way to do those as there's minimal room.
I had a '93 Vigor with the same 2.5 liter I-5 in it years and years ago. Great motors, suck to work on.

Oh darn. Yeah these engines suck to work on. Thanks for the advice. Guess i better go rent the crank shaft tool from autozone then.

Is this crank bolt normal? Counterclockwise to loosen right? Wow it's a beast. I didnt think i put it on this tight before.

Finally got everything done, replaced the water pump seal and put everything back together and the bastard is still leaking. It is coming from the timing belt cover which i assumed it was the water pump seal. What else could it be?

I wouldn't toss the car yet, it's going to be an easy fix more than likely. I hate hate hate dealing with coolant, and despise trying to trace any sort of leak.
I would pull the lower timing belt cover, let the car run on a lift and pinpoint exactly where it is coming from.

Thanks for your response and help. I'll try to figure something out. Also, when you did all that, did you temove the radiator? It's such a pain b/c coolant goes everywhere and powersteering fluid and what looked like transmission fluid too. Next time i get in there i may try to do it with the radiator on still.
