NSX engine
I've come across the possibility of buying a 1992 nsx with a blown motor. What would be the expected cost of replacing? either taking this one out and having it redone, buying another one (new or used), or buying a JDM.

Don't know what the dealer hour estimate is but most should be able to get it out 5-7 hours. Used engines range from 5-10ish k, with the low for a 3.0 and the high for a low mile 3.2. A new engine is going to be major $$. Have no idea what a JDM engine is going to cost.
An alternative, after finding out exactly what is wrong with the engine, is to go through Science of Speed for their engine refresh program.

Id get it and swap in something with more power. Something like the 5.3 LS4 used in the Impala SS and Grand Prix GTP. 300+ hp/tq, light weight, and already transversly mounted.

Just an idea. NSX engines are expensive, and I figure if you are going to spend a bunch of money it might as well be on something with some decent power.

i havent priced nsx engines but there could be less demand for them in japan thus making importing them a viable option.

Chances are, the seller already found out that it's not worth spending the money to replace the engine before selling it, and is hoping that some sucke... ahem, some buyer might spend more than the car is now worth, erroneously assuming it won't be as expensive to replace the engine as it actually is.

thats jus stupid if u ask me. most americans motors/cars are p.o.s and dont last long. i seen some brand new american cars on the road that can't start.
anyways. yea nsx are a lot since they are hand built. but if i had the money i'd get it since thats the top of the line honda motor.

I am in Japan right now, and have seen some used nsx's for sale. Most are low K's, considerably cheaper, due to the insurance premiums gets jacked up as the car gets older, but very few engines can be found. The Japanese here keep their cars in some-what in good condition, and likelyhood of finding just the engine is too rare to look into. If ur looking into geting other engines such as civic, accord, great place to check out. If there are enuf ppl requesting nsx to be bought in a certain area, I have an option to locate and export it. I can upload some ads of some for sale, if i can figure out how to upload here.
I checked insurance on an NSX out of curiousity. On a 21 yr old with clean insurance, it was actually cheaper to insure an nsx or Z06 than it was to insure an acura rsx-s. Crazy eh?

I don't really care about the flames, it was just an idea to improve performance and save money.
