Default Vtec Problem

History of the motor : I bought a ITR shell and put the b18c jdm ITR motor i had in my eg in it . The motor was sitting for a couple of months with oil still in it. The vtec worked strong but now does now want to work.

Things i have checked : Well i reran wires for the vtec solenoid and pressure switch and still does not work.

The only code i have right now is 10. Which is Intake air temp right? Would this effect vtec? My speedo also works so i dont think its a vss problem. Any help would be appreciated!

thanks! Help me get this 97 back on the road!

Your IAT affects alot in your system. Is it plugged in? In the mean time, check your oil levels. Does it even engage in VTEC?

you can do a manual test using shop air to test if the mechanic part of vtec is working. chances are the solenoid might not be working because the mechanical part of vtec pretty much was engineered to never fail. you'll hear of a billion solenoids before a rocker goes in a vtec setup. check for proper wiring, ground/s etc.

Find another VTEC solenoid, slap it on there and retest. Considered cleaning out the screen filter?

I have another vtec solenoid but it does not have a pressure switch. Anyone know the scoop on that?

The only place I know of that has the codes listed: http://www.itrca.com/FAQ/troubleshooting/celcodes.php
It sounds like an electrical problem. see if the wires are getting the proper signals and hopefully they are. If they are then it's a mechanical problem and at that point I'd check to see if the oil pressure is in the range that it should be.
good luck.

i just recently fixed my timging belt.
the cam gears are aligned. the thing that says up.
they are probaly like 1-4 mm off only. so that should'nt affect the VTEC. (hopefully).
my oil is just a little over the 2nd hole...shouldnt affect much either.
i would gas it and when it hits 5,500k you'll hear nothing..
you'll just feel a little jump.. it gets all quiet.
my oil pan have some dents when i first bought it.
plus vtec always worked until i just recently changed my timing belt.
y..help!.

by the way how do i tighten the power steering pulley.
its loose now for some reason.
the belt is good. but the Power Steering Pulley wiggles a lot.

Are you using a USDM ECU, which would look for the VTEC Pressure Switch that the B18C does not have?

i think its the timing.
i got a big question!!!.

1st time i timed my car my dad turned the crankshaft to clockwise.
that was yesterday!!!

2nd--today.
i am re-timing it..should i just counter-clockwise it like crazy until the piston comes to the top?.

would the 1st time affect the 2nd time?

timing wouldn't have any effect on vtec kicking on you can have it off so bad you'll have piston to valve contact in vtec, and wtf are you talking about above?

lmfao..sorry didnt explain well.

today is my 2nd time TIMING THE BELT!!!!.
yesterday was the 1st..

the 1st time---my dad turn the crank clockwise...WITHOUT the timing belt on.
would that affect the engine?

2nd time-- im still on timing belt learning what to do.
so far i know...turn it counterclockwise.

question: do i turn it counterclockwise with the timing belt on or off...
if on how many times do i counterclockwise it?
