Default The Verdict: Fitment of Type II Carbing JDM RHD Strut Tower Bar

EDIT: For those just skimming thru, please read thru as I was able to get the bar to fit despite my initial post.

Does it fit? Well I found out today.

The answer, is of the worse kind: maybe.

Upon intial drop-in, it will not fit on my car but, there is a slight chance it will drop right in on a car with stock suspension.

Yes the LHD firewall has threaded holes that will support the firewall bracket.

However, the studs on my Tein HA pillow mounts are too long, and will not allow the holes in the bar to line up.

I looked at my stock struts and I think the studs are significantly shorter. There is a slight chance the bar will fit (It will be close) with a stock suspension. I could cut the studs down a bit, but first I will try on a friends stock susp car.

As a note, the harness bracket that mounts to the left tower needs to be moved, as well as the sensor bracket on the firewall right above the IM (what sensor is this? MAP?)

As for master cylinder clearance, assuming the studs can get thru the holes on the bar, it will be damn close, with the bar coming right down above the cap.

Modification to make it fit may include the following:

-Slot mount holes on the bar a little.
-Shorten studs on struts.
-Remount or secure sensor, harness and lines.
This is all assuming it will clear the MC Cap, which would be very difficult to modify

I apologize I didn't have my camera on me, but when we try on a stock itr, I will take some pics (Will try at the track tonight)

More info to come.

-sack

Well I haven't tested in on a stock R yet, I know everyone is waiting, sorry

But it's all good because there will be 500+ stock R's at the expo S00nday, and I'll be sh0 to bring up the shiny Al-You-Minnie-uhm specimin for everyone to see and touch and pet and fondle and try to fit on their car.

Stay tuned.

Can I touch? I won’t make a mess.

I think that if the bar is placed on the car and then the shock are raised into position (then bolted up)… the forward fitment points will work out ok.

The relocation of the 'sensor' on the firewall is no big deal.

The brake fluid reservoir is a big deal.

Will for $55, I'll let you have it alone in a room for 30 minutes

EDIT: I'm able to get the bar on and off in 10 minutse now.

Um, to me the need to drop your shocks everytime you take the strut tower bar on or off is not kosher- what a pain in the ***.
30 minutes = nicey nice time...

The install should only be done one time..

once it is on... it will stay.

I think a bar like that would be more effective if they made it so that it braced the upper control arm bolts the firewall, instead of the upper shock mounts, since the upper control arms is what takes the direct cornering loads, not the shocks.

But you gotta remove the bar to do things such as switch intakes, and um, lots of other things that I can't think of right now.

IT FITETH!

I ran the bar for the entire expo.
It turns out that you only need to drop the shocks for installation. jack the car up after unbolting the uppoer mount, and it fits.

THe other modifications are:

-Bend the passenger side wire harness bracket top flat up 90 deg.

-Remove solenoid bracket on firewall. I just left it underneath the bar, it's pretty snug.

-Bend down the hose arm on the fuel filter bracket.

Like so:

As for performance...

Sorry! I dunno. I'm still getting used to the new suspension and R compound tires, and z-10 bars on the track so i don't know!

But the car felt damn good! Ask the expo folk who got rolllllllllled by #124
