Totaled or not?
Hey guys,
Well, after taking the car out on a Friday, some old fart had to pull out in front of me and ruin my caR . This just happened yesterday and insurance said they will come check out the car sometime this week. I drove it from one side of town to the other but after I opened the hood I saw the front passenger frame(where motor mount is) bent, does this mean totaled? I hope not............anyways, both motor mounts have moved and the passenger side of the engine sits a little higher and more toward the fire wall than the driver's side, but nothing leaked or broke internally, motor/trans. still shift fine. Please let me know what you think.
Here's the damage, let me know what you guys think.

I really hope she's not totaled, I've spent soo much time and money keeping her safe. She only has 54,xxx miles and it's a 2001 with clear title, I'm praying to the car gods, cause I REALLY don't want to have a salvaged title for her.

Yea I am sorry about the accident man... Looks pretty bad I give it a 50-50 of being totaled out... Only because my buddies GSR had less damage recently and they totaled his out.
But at least it can be repaired.

it doesnt look totaled to me, but depending on what insurance company you have/or deal with, its hard to say.
Insurance standard for totaling out a vehicle is if the damages exceed 80-85% of the ACV (actual cash value) of the vehicle the the car is deemed a total loss.
for instance,
lets say the car is worth $18,000 after depreciation and all that jazz, then 80% would be $14,400. The damages on the vehicle would have to exceed $14,400 for the car to be a total loss, and by the looks of the pics, i think the deciding factor would be the hours needed on the frame machine. Then again, all insurance companies do business differently, my info is based off USAA insurance practices

Woah! Man that sucks. I wonder what they are going to do about the JDM front end. Hopefully the total of stock parts will equal enough to get another JDM front.

that seems like a relatively inexpensive repair compared to the overall value of the car. i think you'll still have your clear title. also, i wouldn't drive it anymore because of the alignment all out of wack. =P

Definitely.
Here are some pics from the side, the doors open and close fine, so does the hatch.
Sorry for the pic quality, these were taken with a disposable camera.

i would think i depends on how much you own on it...if not much they would cut you a check...if there is still a lot owed on the car then it will be fixed...looks pretty bad... due to the tweaked engine.....good luck none the less!!!!

tough call...looks like a decent amount of work to fix. being totalled isnt always a bad thing, unless you are concerned with resale and having a salvaged/rebuilt title. either way you will still have to disclose it was in an accident if you sell it, so that alone would steer people away even if the title isnt salvaged/rebuilt. if it does get totalled, the bright side is you can usually buy it back, and no longer have to make payments on it.
I think I would be mainly concerned with getting the motor to sit back in its proper position to make sure the axles are aligned properly. otherwise you could be looking at breaking axles all the time if they arent at the proper angles.
Ive been through it before and hope you have a full police report.

This picture alone tells me they will total the car.
When I purchased my wrecked R, the frame rails were straight as an arrow, but the driver side inner fender and the radiator support were both damaged. If that picture represents the passenger side frame rail, then I would be willing to bet they will total it out. Hell they totalled the car I bought with much more front bumper/head light damage but less "structural" damage. It looks even to bent to be put on a frame machine. The only way I could see fixing that car is to front half it. Other than that, buy it back along with another shell and put yourself another car together. Either way it sucks that it happened. Glad to hear you made it out ok.

That really sucks man!
From the looks of it, ins will total the car.
The parts you have are really expensive, the damage is instesive, and the current value is not that good.
2 years ago I got into a small accident and repairs were over 10K. My car wasn't totaled but if the same thing happend now it would.

Re: (IGGY)
Well guys,
Rene M(H-T member) came by today and saw the car, from what he said it looks better than he thought and I shouldn't have a problem. I already know it's gonna cost $4200 for the front end and carbon fiber parts, so really it's just frame repair and labor/paint costs.
Do you think that with $4000 for frame/labor/paint + $4200 for parts = $8200 they would total car? I know these prices are on the high end in my opinion, so what do you guys think with that said as being damaged?
