Toda vs. SMS header or even the SUPERIOR SMSP header ?
Which one is the better header TODA or SMS ? What are the differences between the two headers that makes it better (bigger primaries or) ? Why is the SMSP the best header ? thanks...
well they are of about equal quality, although I picked the Toda for my 1.8L NA setup, if I would've went 2.0L I would've gotten a SMSP for sure
hmm! that makes me think of going with the sms header

Dave's header is WORLDS above the Toda, no matter what setup your running. Both are quality pieces, but the SMS quite frankly blows the Toda away in the performance category.

Toda makes mass-market off the shelf headers. Dave at SMSP makes custom headers built specifically for your setup. Hmm...hard choice
What's different about the SMSP header is it's sequential pairing of primaries. The Toda uses the old style non-sequential 1-4 2-3 pairing of cylinders. The sequential pairing works better with the firing order in allowing the pulses to pull each other through the header quicker.
Also the SMSP is not restricted to stock length like the Toda is in order to be "bolt-on". Dave made the header the length that works best, not a length that just matches the stock header. Tuan showed this comparison of an old HyTech header vs. Comptech header. The Toda is the same length as the Comptech, and the SMSP is the same length or maybe a bit longer than the HyTech. There is just a world of difference between a mass-market header and a custom built header like SMSP.

who's not quite sure what SurferX was inferring...
yeah but wont the oversized header rubb on the ground so damn bad you ruin the custom header you just spent a grand on ?
I drive my R daily, so if rubbing is a problem then it turns into more of a reliablility factor then a proof of power delima....right
I know I wouldnt want to buy a header that is going to be a pain in the azz to install and then last a month due to pot wholes for an extra two ponies
*just a thought*
also can you run a cat w/ this setup?

Clearance is good. The Toda has better clearance since it is only 2 tubes down there, but the latest SMS ITR headers have excellent clearance. If you get the GSR version with the 4 tubes side by side, then there's no way you'll bang it up unless you bottom out on the oil pan. If you go with the GSR version, you'll have to shave the tranny brace, or just get a GSR version.

Josh thanks for the
in this and other header threads.
The header in that comparison photo is a HiTech. My header is configured diffently for the ITR and again for the GSR. The tube sizes are different and I believe my header is longer. BTW, I'm finishing up the design of a new drag only 4-2-1 for a local racer which we hope won't be too long for the tunnel inlet
. We'll post some pictures when it's built and if it proves to work like we hope.
As for the Toda header, I'm not aware of a controlled test between mine and it. But I believe it's one of the best high production headers available. If I was buying a production header I go for the following.
Budget minded
ITR JDM - If ground clearance is a concern
DC JDM Stainless - If ground clearance isn't a concern
More Liberal Budget
Toda - Great build quality and light weight (not crazy about the non functional springs)
