Default Tachometer Problems...

I have a USDM 01' ITR with a JDM 98' ITR motor. My tach works, but once it gets past 6,000 RPM the needle goes straight down to 0. I bought a brand new distributor for the car but it doesnt show any RPM at all, so i'm not sure if its the distributor now. Can someone help me please?

Are/were there any perfomance loss when the tach drops? or is it just the tach? Original guage cluster?

on this same note, does the car sound like it is bouncing off of the rev limiter when it shows 6k rpm on the tach?

If so, you may be running in limp mode.....

Which is where I think Walker111 is going w/ his question

Its just the tach, the motor runs fine after the tach drops to zero. I have a chipped P28 ECU.

I'm thinking its a ground, if so where exactly behind the gauge cluster is the ground for the tach?

Here is a picture to help what may the problem. there is a stray wire coming from the gauge cluster to the engine bay that has been cut a stripped. someone that had the car before me has had an aftermarket tach in the car before.
