Default Still the best?

I know inside line compared the Type R to a Civic Si (which is no competition to say the least), so I wanted to know if the Type R is still the best FWD handling car around and if it can out handle any AWD and RWD cars out today? I wish EVO mag would do another comparison but have the reigning king Type R take on today's best handling FWD vehicles.

I know it's still the best FWD car ever produced. But I don't know about it out handling some of the later model AWD and RWD cars. I'm talking BMW's, the new skyline, ect. It may compare well to it being a 9-15 year old car and FWD, but for an overall comparision I'm not educated enough to judge.

I hope this doesn't turn into one of those threads...

To be honest, they are in different class. Even Grand Turismo had specif class could race each other.

It wouldn't be a much fair of a race if you had an R going againts these EVO's/STi's/R3#.

It would be nice to hear from people racing stock R's againts 2008-2011's AWD line up though to compare though.

But overall, for a 9-15 year old car, I think it still holds up well to these new track monsters, especially for being a FWD car. Who knows, it may still out handle some of these new track built cars. I'm waiting for somebody who really knows there **** to step in..

In fairly certain that a Type R could outhandle the new v6 'stang. Obviously the ITR would get wrecked in the straights, but in the corners it would always come out on top. I have to say, though, the ITR is no match for the mustang GT.

Personally, I think the Type R will stay one of the best FWD for a long time.

I'm also waiting for people who has actually took their softly modded R's against the new RWD/AWD line ups. Just to see a comparison.

Don't compare an ITR to a Mustang, ever, unless it's boosted. Two completly different animals.

You guys need to get out on track and see how highly competitive these cars are. You'd be greatly surprised.

The only car I couldn't contest with this past weekend was an STi w/ stage 2 on R888's being drove very well, the rest of the run group consisted of e36 m3's, a z28, a 350z, some rustang, etc... all of which had to point me by at least once.

They're a very nimble machine that do very well on technical courses.

Plus you always get to retain underdog status, it makes it nice not to drive with a target on your back.

And speaking of mustang GT's I clearly remember riding shotgun while andy was driving my car blowing past a 03 cobra in the instructor rungroup.

Car makers provide "a product" for the masses and not everyone, like my wife says "who wants a bumpy ride like a Type R".
Turbo charging has been around, in limited factory release, for many years and has become the answer to Hondas high compression 100hp per liter engine.
Other car manufacturers are offering better suspensions, but those cars are out of, most everyones', price range.
In the current, under 50K$ market, I can not think of any cars, which offer both the natural aspirated power and factroy suspension, of the 9 - 13 year old Type Rs.
If you are willing to over look the NA engine and open the conversation up to include all wheel drive turbos, then the WRX/STI comes to mind, as well as the 1994 Porsche 911 turbo S series. The later is still selling for over 50K$ and I think that the cost of a tune up is just under $1500

re-11 205/50/15 on stock wheels
braided brake lines, hp+ front pads

The newest CTR is THE fastest FWD car ever produced. Theres a 30 minute video of it vs. other Type R vehicles, EVO, R34 GTR, 350Z, S2000... yeah it kicked ***. But as far as pricing and simplicity, DC2R hands down coolest FWD vehicle ever.

Expo 10, Shields Bergstrom drove my ITR for a session. We passed everything including an Elise, a Time Trial EVO and a Time Trial Z06. Shields also said that he was catching the GTR but I cannot confirm that. He said that my particular ITR was faster around Autobahn than many cars he has driven including my friends old NSX with NSX-R suspensionand R-Comps. He enjoyed it so much that he was even considering buying an ITR.

ITR... maybe not the best but still very capable in the right hands.

Not a chance in hell.

And from the cobalt ss note earlier, I've heard great things about them.

Only in a striaght line. They have gotten spanked by stock R's the last 2 year's in a row at the AutoX Nationals. DS class.

Cocky Americans and their belief that whoever goes the fastest in a straight line has the better car. HAH! It is much more difficult to do a quick lap on a REAL track than to mash the throttle and do a few shifts down a straight road.

Yeah, the Cobalt SS (turbo version) is a fast car in a straight line. It also did well at Nurburgring because it was able to use its power.

But on a course that demands utmost handling, the R will still beat it. And remember the ITR is on 15x6" wheels vs the 18x7.5's on the Cobalt SS.

Put simply, stock vs stock the ITR is and probably will be the best handling FWD car ever produced. It won't have the quickest laptimes due to its lack of power, but slalom times will be at the very top, every time.

And the only reason the new CTR is so fast because it has wide rubber and a ton of power. Those two advantages will allow it to eclipse the more nimble DC2R.

would boosting an ITR (done right meaning build the block as well and upgrade all internals + fuel and suspension and all the other stuff) ruin the top notch handling? like, wouldnt the R become one of the best cars of all time if you gave it more HP and torque?

Just a n00b, sure, modifying an R can ruin the handling. Research and proper selection of parts is key.

The Cobalt SS is fast, but I remember at the run offs that they ate tires really bad.

ahhh, so it's not about the power but how it's managed?

anyways, just curious, have any of you ever heard of the Virginia Climb? And have any of you taken your R and try to get 3:41?
