Spoon VTEC Controller.
Can anyone give me a lowdown on this unit? Besides changing VTEC X-over what else can you do with it?
And is installation similar to that of a VAFC?

it adjusts VTEC, nothing else.

V-TEC Controller : Simultaneous to the start of sales in the fall of 1988, Spoon began development tests of a Civic EF9 racing vehicle fitted with a V-TEC engine. During actual circuit driving, it was not possible to better the lap time of the previous-model EF3, dashing the hopes of the developers. In response, a study was undertaken through comparison of segmental lap times, and it was found out that although speed on the straight was high, the vehicle suffered from slow tight cornering. Even though the rotation at corners would be lowered, a mechanism for incorporation into the high cam was hurriedly manufactured and tested; consequently, it was determined that it was crucial that free selection of the high-cam's switching point be possible during circuit driving. As a result of this discovery in February 1990, the driver, Ichishima was able to gain victory in his EF9 during his debut "Pole to win" race. In the same year, in addition, he recorded numerous victories in becoming the series champion, thus securing the Civic's position as a fast racing vehicle. Following this, the V-TEC became a standard additional component for the Civic; however, since V-TEC control functions are pre-programmed for the genuine-part ECUs in the Integra R and EK-series Civics, it is necessary to add a V-TEC controller to be able to make fulluse of its advantages.
Yah its the one w/ no display, just the ****.
I also heard what Daryl said, where it adjusts fuel etc.. for you?

natty dread, easy with the blooodclot mong ...
as for mis-information ... everyone thinks a vtec controller just controls vtec, well it should jsut do that, afterall the ecu has fuel maps that it follows when its stock RPM point engages vtec it adds fuel, the VAFC and SFC (the two that I know and have used), manipulates the map sensor input to the ecu by leaning out fuel during the difference in RPM from stock to the setting on the controller ... here's an example:
P72 ecu, stock ecu switches at 4400rpm, and map from there on adds more fuel ... your VTEC controller is set to change VTEC at 5300, between 4400 and 5300 you controller is leaning out the map sensor signal to the ecu. Many people (seen this many times) think they have to manually lean out the controller at that point(4400 - 5300) not realizing the controller does that automatically.
I dont knwo how the Spoon one operates but check to see if the wiring requires that you cut/connect into the map sensor input on the ecu, if you need to do that then its controller fuel if not then its a simple controller that moves vtec point wihtout changing fuel.
