Shift Light Installation??????s
I purchased a used Autometer Shift light with no instruction booklet. There are three wires that I need to attach. Green, Black and Red. Which goes where? Any Help Please?
Im going to guess, Red is positive, Black is ground and Green goes to Tach signal (Which you can tap on the back of the gauge cluster)
Maybe someone with one can verify it though

RED - ignition
BLACK - ground (anything metal of the body, to a bolt)
WHITE - is a dash light...from the back
GREEN - the actually tach reading....get it from the tach termanal at the distributor
or what mike said intercepting it at the back of the cluster......which is a light blue wire on the middle harness...not sure though....find some wiring diagrams in a helms or haynes (free at pepboys)

The green wire on the shift light connects to what color wire on the distributor? Where can I find the ignition wire?

Green goes to Blue tach wire. You can connect to it at either the service connector on the LF shock tower (easiest), behind the gauge cluster, or off the distributor.
Going to the factory service connector is by far the easiest.

or you could just hit the rpm signal wire at the ecu? seems a lot easier than running wire into the engine bay.

Thanks for all the info. I installed the shift light with all your advice but it seems that the light only works in first and second gear. I almost blew my motor up waiting for the light to go off on third gear. My motor reached to 9500 RPM and no light went off. I glad I have an upgraded valve train.
Any suggestions why my light doesn't work in third or fourth gear. Jay

No light is going to be a replacement for common sense...

going through the dash is way easier!
No wire to lay under the carpet/through the dash for 6 feet.
Once you see where the plug/grommet is, it is really easy.
