Default Rust ??!!

Hi Guys,

I was cleaning under the hood of my JDM 98 Spec and i found something strange,

where there are the bonnet hinges i noticed some rust and even on the top edge of the bulk head there is some kind of corrosion, where the panel meets the plastic cover where there are the wipers.

It seems nothing too serious, and i have no other rusty spots on my car....

What do you think guys? How should i rectify this problem please?

Thanking you,

Yes, I found rust under the hood too and cleaned everything... Not a big deal but I would take a look the one or the other day.

Rust, that sucks. I think the only way to get rid of rust is to sand it down to bare metal and then repaint it to protect it. I don't know what area you're talking about (it doesn't matter anyway) but maybe you can just get some touch up paint and sand it down and paint it yourself if it's small enough. Good luck

Look under the rear at the rear bumper support. I noticed a good bit of rust there on my ITR.

Hi,

Any ideas how should i tackle the problem please?

Should i remove the plastic panel and sand my enemy down and retouch it with paint and put loads of grease ?

Or should i take it to a paintshop?

Thanks,

Once you get rid of it you should look into this product from http://WWW.COUNTERACTRUST.COM .

Rust might not be a big worry for you but for a couple hundred bucks you can have peace of mind knowing that your car is safe. I live up here in Canada where rust is a huge problem. I am getting one of these kits as soon as I get my R.

Your statement about you not being a chemist is perfect. You have no idea what you are talking about and it shows. Did you ever take chemistry in High School? Remember your oxidation tables? By using a sacrificial piece of metal that corrodes more easily you can save the rest of the car.

Its simple chemistry, which is science which means it has been proven in controlled environments. I guess I can’t force you not to be ignorant but when there is no reason for this product not to work and you still call it bull I just don’t know what to do .

Do not tolerate any rust at all, period! Rust is like an std,**** is contagious, and spreads like a motherf**ker. Living in Hawaii, that is the starting to a whole lot of problems to come. Keep an eye by the door pillars&trunk(by the hatches),by the wheel wells(pull the mud gaurds to ensure you see metal),by the rear pass windows(bottom trims),man you can check you b pillars if you want. Get it replaced if you can,if your going to use mud,use Duraglass. Make a good inspection when looking for rust/or beginning of rust. Good luck.

Hi i thoroughly checked my car.

I checked under the splash guard, sills, doors everything.............. and there isn't any.....

I will tackle that underbonnet enemy when i will have some time.....

And when a friend of mine has too....as he is better to disassemble parts than me !!

it is my understanding that the systems work by using an electrolytic solution between the anode and cathode to make a complete circuit, but without this solution (i.e salt water), how is it possible to make an ionic path around the entire vehicle?
