OT: The Realization of Difference
I get what Kendall is saying as well. He isn't saying the ITR is the best car in the world because its "more mature", but rather that Honda specifically designed it for one thing. It's not meant to be some highway stormer or drag beast. What it was designed for was to be a very capable TRACK car with exceptional balance out of the box. I think we can all agree that tracking a car is more mature than a lot of motorsports activities (street racing). If you can understand this then in SOME regards it is a more maturely designed car for the simple fact that it doesn't have much compromise. Maybe "maturely built" would be better stated as "specifically designed for mature drivers".
If you dump a ton of money into it so that you can run with your street stunna friends from an 80mph roll then yeah its pretty over rated.
For all of these people that say is overated how many track/auto-x events have you done? I'm sorry but my ITR has been INCREDIBLE at auto-x and has shamed many, many cars in stock form with my newb self behind the wheel. I mean how many times does it have to prove it self in racing? It's won numerous championships, every magazine in the world has raved about it, and it just simply got around the track amazingly fast when it was in production. You guys can stop comparing it to new cars as well, because news flash: they don't make them anymore. It was the fastest and best handling FWD car in the world at one time. Sorry if 16 year old punks have over rated it. Get over it.
Look at it this way. I bet their aren't too many people that would say "hey look at that piece of crap 1969 427 Camaro (or any other bad ace muscle car)". They hold a place in performance history and will always demand respect in some regards, sadly that old Camaro is a joke if you want to compare it to any modern performance car from a logical stand point. My point: every car on the planted will be outdated, its called time. If you think a car designed in 1996 is supposed to still be spanking everything out there you aren't in reality. In ten years time a 2003 EVO or SRT4 won't be as impressive as the lastest greatest model either.
< thinks some people dump too much money in their ITR for the wrong reasons. Get it out to the track and start learning what it was meant to do. I assure you that for 24k its one of the most reliable, fun, fast, cheap and easiest to maintain/work on track/auto-x cars out there.

The difference I realized is that the SUPRA commands a level of automotive maturity that is far beyond almost anything on the road. So few cars are purpose built like the SUPRA, and most of them aren't nearly as obtainable. Everything about an SUPRA requires that level of maturity: security, modification, maintenence, the list goes on. In the end, all I can say is that I'm very proud to be amongst those who own and care for an SUPRA.

IMHO the R was never made to go fast in a strait line. It does what it was made to do. Drag racing and road course racing draw different crowds. Street racing and drag racing are often mixed around. I prefer to be in the AutoX/road course crowd because street racing and AutoX /road course racing are never thought of as the same.
From my experience the people in the road course and AutoX crowd seem to be quite helpful. I've had some great tips and suggestions such as you should try inflating your tires more or concentrate on being smoother, like water. From spectating some street racing events I’ve herd tips such as you can get 18’s on-line for cheap now, or you should paint your calipers. This is just me but I like the fact that I’ve never seen neons, crazy body kits, or people bumping their ‘system’ at AutoX/road Course events.
In Kendall case it seems like he was with big spending street racers that night. Although they may do freeway pulls it's quite different from being on a true drag strip.
The problem is that popular culture now considers a fast car as one that is only fast in a strait line. Many semi car-enthusiasts don't even know what AutoX is
but will always know what drag racing is.I know some of my opinions are biased. I tried to be as objective as I could. I wish I could explain my thoughts better in writing as well.

Seriously though I hate to be an ***, but this topic's sole purpose seems to be a ego-stroking topic. It seems at first glance the total opposite, but the bottom line is that this guy thinks he's so much better than all those other guys because they wanted to race everyone with faster cars.
What brought you out to that spot in the first place? Would you not say that it requires a certain immaturity level to go hang out at night in a parking lot with a bunch of older guys with expensive cars that are probably neglecting families to fuel their selfish car desires?
What did you expect from such a crowd? Did you expect them to jump for joy over your R?
I think it's highly unfair for you to make such bold statements about having to have a certain "maturity level" to own an R or whatever just because you were hanging out with a bunch of ********.
Tell that to the growing number of ********* whose parents are buying used Rs for their 18 year old kids after the "mature" guys got tired of them.

When i read this i completely felt like i wrote it myself about three months ago. Hangin out in this forum has really done a lot for me and the way i view material possesions. I considered myself a very materialistic person, and still do to an extent at times but no where near how bad i was when i first started posting on these boards.
I use to think that if your car wasnt an R then you had mise well just stop talking to me. This doesnt mean i dont still get excited when i see an R because i do, but i came to realize that "ITS JUST A DAMN CAR". Its an awesome damn car, that i loved to drive, is so unique among its fellow sport compact cars, and has really made a name for itself.
I honestly laugh to this day about how crazy and peticular i was with that damn car though. I mean when i started putting a car before family and loved ones, i realized there was definitely a problem. To all R ownerz i say this. Know what you have, enjoy what you have, but realize that there will always be someone somewhere with bigger and better who doesnt give a fawk about an R.
I go through this with a buddy who has an WRX all the time. He constantly starts **** with me about his WRX which is gods gift to the automobile industry. Hangin out on this board helped me realize that giving a **** about what he thinks is only beating myself. There will always be somebody who doesnt care for your car, and thinks theirs is better.
Where i am going with any of this i have no clue so i will stop before i start talking about my childhood or something way off topic
