Neone have this prob? Vtec dies, ITR will not go past 6K RPMs in any gear
Well, vtech was kicking in and out for the past few days, and tonight it made a few clunking sounds before it finally stopped. Then, the engine light came on. I read in some archived threads that all you need to do is change the battery? True? Changing the battery tomrrow morning w/ a battery from AutoZone, but thought Id see if neone else have this problem?

if your oil pressure isnt right, the vtec wont kick in. as far as why it died? maybe your oil is very low, and you blew a ring.

Check your oil level (at least), an oil change is probably a good idea as well.
About the battery ... you probably don't need to change it unless it is really bad (test it), but resetting the ECU after the oil change is a good idea.

internal coil in distributor might be taking a poop. reminds me of when my external coil wire was half off half on.

Well, in his case his "vtech" isn't working. So he might need to try another battery, but I don't know if autozone is gonna carry the small 9 volt battery he needs, may have to try radio shack or another electronics store. Maybe there is a recall on bad dying vtech's, did you try recharging, having you been using the paging function often? Is it the 800 mghz or the 1200 mghz model?

Hey guys, it wasn't the oil. Checked it last week, and oil level was fine. I did change it anyways, but didnt do the trick. However, changing the battery after trying the oil first did do the trick, and I can feel a larger boost coming out of first. Thanks for your responses and help. Just one more question, how would changing the battery cause the vtech to comeback?

check the vtec solenoid, or oil pressure switch.
theres a filter/screen in that assembly that can get clogged up basically.
is it cel 1259?
autozone will scan it for free...
aet

Changing the battery of your vtech will make it come back to life FOR SURE...
I once tried everything to fix mine... changed the speaker and pickup inside of it... put a new antenna on it... new keypad, you name it.. nothing helped... UNTIL I changed the battery.. then it worked like a charm.
Mine is 900 megahertz... not sure what model you have, but it sounds like a similar problem.
BTW, why are you asking about your portable phone on a auto-related message board?
