OP has not been back because he's getting pwned here on HT, he's actually dealing with people with some sense and knowledge here. He's really going off on REVscene, where users there are, well "dumb as a door ****" and "selective reading".

I would think so, the evidence stands. The engine did have an issue with oil leaking but it was taken care of. The engine was dogged out hard with a modified (not professionally tuned) ECU before it was broken in...

Probably.

The OP was back on after many replies to this thread were made and clearly decided not to add to the conversation.

he has continued to make his case on the other forums. this is mainly on VCC and RS that he's been copying and pasting comments onto.

lol @ OP's lack of response to this thread. he's been very adamant at updating his threads on other forums but HT appears to be too much for him to handle.

So this is my update

David from Evo garage contacted me and wanted to work something out as the oil consumption had never been resolved after 2rebuilds. I pulled the head for inspection and determined that there was top end consumption from the guides.

Further more I found that that the cylinders on cyl 2,3 were now scored which were not present before it was sent to be rebuilt. In addition there was excessive bearing wear on cyl 3 rod bearing, which were never replaced. I can only conclude that they just re ringed it and sent it back. I contacted David with my findings and said he would only honor they cylinder head work . At that point i had had enough and would rather perform a rebuild on my own then deal with him and his shade tree machine shop.

Upon tear down of the engine the things I had noted were
-scored cylinder walls
-oil leak from intake valve guides
-misc non oem bolts, bolting on windage tray
- reused bearings
-poor quality felpro gaskets
-2 bent valves

I rebuilt the engine using 0.25os jdm Itr pistons , replaced all my valves and guides , and bearings with oem parts. Performed break in as per the same routine as the last rebuild attempts. After break in my consumption has stabilized to almost nothing in 5000km on 5w30.

In the end I'm into it for $10000 and 3 years of my ITRs life sitting in my garage. It didn't impact my life significantly but it was a cloud hanging over my head. Now that I'm on the other end of the tunnel I've deffinately learned a lot of things and gained a lot of wisdom from it. The main one being no one will ever care for your **** as much as you will.

I've said my peace , see you in another 3 years.

Regards
ITR owner for life.

Definitely an unfortunate situation. I am never an advocate for airing out a bad experience with a shop publicly as it never paints the entire picture and a lot of distaste gets thrown around for perhaps a one-off isolated incident. Be that as it may, it sounds like the shop tried to do something for the OP and that resolve wasn't up to the OP's standards. Nonetheless I'm glad you got the motor up and running Steady, and it sounds like you've chalked it up as a loss and charged it to the game while pulling away from this incident with a positive, which is a running and driving ITR. That is always a win.

It's stories like these that make me eternally grateful of the relationship that I have with my shop. 10+ years strong and getting exactly what I pay for every time, no question.

I feel for you not getting what you thought you were getting, but I hate to say it seems to the be way buying used parts work. No one really knows what they have and what the used motor has been through. Name of the game is take it apart and make it better.

On a side note I have a 01 Type r myself. I have rebuild all seals in my head as I have done headwork and mine its whole life has spit out black stuff and does use oil at track days. I feel some is normal, but to make mine better I would have to bore and hone it and run new pistons and rings.
