Default My day at the Dyno.

With only 17k miles, newly installed DC 4-1 Header, Carsound CAT, (SMSP style) Toda camgears, and V-AFC. my base Dyno-pull: 175HP.
After intake advance (8 degrees) 30-40hp loss across entire powerband.
Wasn’t too happy about this so I had them return Cam to <0>.
Next Dyno run was the same: 30-40hp loss.
By this time I'm smelling clutch.
The tech said that my clutch was gone, and that the additional load of Dyno was not rendering correct numbers. So I leave with gears returned to their previous setting.
Everything feels great, buttdyno - like.
My question is, why would my clutch give out on the dyno?
If the Dyno asserts more load, how much more?
I tried the clutch-life ghetto test: 10MPH roll, 5k RPM step off clutch in 3rd. (engine dies) sounds like ample grip to me...

uh, yeah.
They obviously had issues with reading the vernier scale.
They said it was only 2 degrees, but it was 8.

Funny thing... It ran great.
Factory cam angle is not perfect. In theory I may have been retarded a bit already.
Any safe setting you guys recommend? -2 EX and +2 EX ?

Take it to the dealership...they will replace it under warranty.

Mine died after a spring broke on the pressure plate at 23K miles and they still replaced it. However, I know everyone there and they know I dont race it, which seems to be a problem with the dealerships.

Good Luck!

What does that mean?? Mine gripped, but felt like a$$...I wasnt able to shift at all, so I started it up in second and drove to the dealership in 2nd gear the whole way.

Also...mine broke under normal driving conditions (rush hour traffice)...no hard shift or anything...I just couldnt shift all the sudden...

Did that answer your question??

Explain more on how your clutch feels...when i was in gear and actually pushed on the gas...it would not pull as hard like the clutch was half engaged and half disengaged. Really weird feeling...

This is when I had the clutch in...

It feels like the day I bought it.
That's why I was concerned about it craping out on the dyno.
Carboy made it seem like I sustained such an increase in power that my clutch wouldn't hold with the additional 15-20 hp.
...sure

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me...

Does it feel like you have lost 30-40 hp?

Not at all...
Feels quite strong. like +15hp @ 5kRPM on up.
...on the Butt Dyno.
It was almost as if the didn't fully release the brake on the dyno-drum.
(not appropriately named I'm sure)

My current concern is, what should I return my cam settings to? (at<0> now)

Stay at 0-0 until you get back on the dyno to tune the camgears properly.
The clutch mystery sound very fishy. If the clutch can accelerate the car without any hesitation I really doubt that it could not turn the drum of a "good" dyno. At worst you should get lower then usual HP reading.

That can't be right considering your car is FWD and the emergency brake only locks the back wheels up (I'm 99% sure I'm right on that)

Maybe him pushing on the brake pedal would be a different story?? That would be a stupid idiot...

I think he is talking about the actual brake that slows the drum on a dynojet...

Makes more sense now...I have seen one car in my life get dyno'd, so I guess that's why I didnt know about that...

Thanks!
