Looking at Buying 2000 ITR #679.......theft recoverd
I think that's the #....anyways. It's a theft recovery. It's missing seats/wheels and the engine is locked up. The state at which I would consider buying it is if he get's front seats and gets the engine short block replaced (24K miles so the dealer thinks he can still get warrenty work) The only mods (as far as I can see) are Coilovers, Welded in roll cage, and AEM fuel filter. The car also has a mild bodykit. I will probably put a stock front bumper on it because I don't really like the one with the kit. I guess what I am asking is does anyone know the story behind this car? I know I can do a VIN check but I was wondering if anyone personaly knows the previous owner. Or if he is/was on this board.

you will probably have a hard time getting a new short block under warranty with a welded cage

Right...Thats what I was thinking. I would like to remove the roll cage anyways. It of course would have to be cut out. It was welded in the front next to the kick panels and in the rear just behind the rear wheel wells. I don't know much about 6 pt 8 pt roll cages so I couldn't tell you what it is. For the price though I don't know if I could pass it up. I am not worried about resale value of the car for I would probaly never sell it.

A welded in cage isn't something that is going to be easy to remove. You are also going to have a very difficult time trying to convince anybody that anything should be covered under the warranty as warranties are voided if the car is tracked at all. The cage is probably a good indicator that the car has seen some track time.

I am guessing they won't do the warrenty work so I may just go for the Tranny clutch and flywheel. Then I beleave he will be selling the shell. It would make a great race car. The body is in very good shape and the miles are low (<24K). What would a shell like that be worth?
