Re: JDM ECU question (jdmitr98)
it won't do anything except NOT give you a CEL if you choose to add a test/straight pipe. that's about it. hp differences are barely noticable, if any at all.

Re: JDM ECU question (jonas)
I was told that there is still a speed governor. Also to put this in my car would I have to buy a different harness? Because I currently have a stock 98' OBD2 ECU, so what kind of modifications does this require?

Re: JDM ECU question (b19coupe)
Are you sure there is no rev limitor? I thought it was just higher then normal.
I was also told that OBD1 ECU's is the only ones that a Import shop is able to reprogram, which I need.
Also what do you guys do about the hole in the cat? you know the one from the secondary o2 sensor.

Who said there was no revlimiter?
As posted above, it still has the stock revlimiter.
Speed is governed around ~ 120mph I believe.
I believe the 98 spec has OBDI controls but OBD2 plugs. It won't read the 2nd 02 sensor on the cat.

Re: JDM ECU question (jdmitr98)
What someone posted is that there is no speed governor, which is not the same as a rev limiter. I don't know if there is a speed governor or not. I just leave the second O2 sensor in and hooked up, so no hole. You might want to think about a P28 ECU, cheap and plentiful.

JDM ECU is more refined and programmed for japans fuel, ie, 100+ ron from the pumps.
your fuel in the states wont work wiht it, i mean, you guys only get in the low to mid 90's ron.
you will probably end up stuffing your motor up unless you further refine it to cope with your crappy fuel.
so whats the point of getting it.
get a piggy back or new fully programmable ECU, JDM wouldnt be worth it unless you get also get 100+ ron fuel.

PWO/PR3 ECUs were OBD0 or equivalent (no emission controls-you can unplug O2 and cat sensors and no CELs)
93-96 ECUs (P30/p72/p13/p28 etc ) were OBD1
96 onwards ECUs were OBD2 (they had the same plugs as USDM OBD2 ECUs but used OBD1 boards/programs)

I am running a JDM ITR ECU with my USDM ITR motor with JDM pistons with 91 octane and 18 timing at idle. Nothing is tuned or refined and I haven't stuffed up my motor.
The JDM ITR ECU uses America's OBD2a plugs, meaning the same plugs you will find on 96-99 hondas. If you have a JDM ITR ECU, it should plug right up to your 98 ITR just fine.
The difference.
The JDM ITR ECU...
Does not look for a second O2 sensor
Does not look for a PTANK sensor
Does not look for a VTEC Pressure sensor
Has a speed governor limted to roughly 120mph
My SI tach shows 9000 rpm before it his the REV limiter, but my Fields VTEC controller shows 8600 rpm.
My SI tach shows 6000-6100 rpm when VTEC engages, but my fields VTEC controller shows 5700-5800.
FYI, I use the Fields Vtec controller simply to remove the speed governor and the display engine rpms. When I hit 120mph, my speedo stops, but the KmH display on the fields continues to climb.

do you plan to have it chipped? or run hondata? p28 is cheaper anyway..
if you just plan to plug-n-play, stick with what you got.
