JDM 98/00 spec, side impact beams?
long shot here, does anyone know if the JDM 98+ Integra have side impact beams/pads?
I know their rebar is a freaking twig compared to the USDM
and if anyone knows why the JDM 98 spec is still so much lighter than the USDM, please do post more info (assuming they both have AC/PS/ABS/SRS...i already know about the windshield, did USDM also get lighter battery?)
found a press release from 1996 on the og ITR for the Americas

Doesn't have crash beams behind the dash either. The door beams are there alright. Doesn't have a centre console so that knocks a couple of pounds off. I doubt the Recaro seats make any difference. If anything they would be heavier. No rear wiper either and the motor on that has some meat to it. Has to be worth a few pounds in weight. I dunno about the USDM, but the Euro ones had a wooden spare tyre cover that was heavy, whereas the JDM's had a cover made of hollow sandwich plastic type stuff and weighs **** all.
Because beyond the front end aesthetics they're the same car, my personal strong suspicion is that the weights given for the JDM models are based on all the option deletes being deleted. The "stripped down" one, rather than the fully optioned one. Case in point: the JDM run out model the R-x is the heaviest of all JDM models because it came with all options as standard. IIRC it's around the same weight as the US/EDM. So if you remove the ABS, A/C, SRS, radio(and speakers), rear third brake light, parcel shelf, clock(I've never seen one without P/S from factory), that's a fair bit of weight removed and I reckon if you removed them from a USDM you'd not be far off the "official" JDM 98 spec weights.

Re: JDM 98/00 spec, side impact beams?
if the master spec sheet at ITR.info is to be believed, the 98 spec and beyond weighs 2469 lbs = 1120 kg even with AC, ABS, SRS
that's basically the same weight AND power (~168 whp) as the latest MX-5 Miata targa
only one way to find out for sure...import one?
wouldn't mind having both classics in my garage

I've got a JDM 99 Spec and am planning on taking it to the weigh station in the spring to see what it currently weighs. Seems like the previous Japanese owner took some liberties on removing additional weight since mine is missing a few items.

Well as it happens, this very morning I had a small problem with one of my alarm central locking actuator thingies and while I was there took a (crappy) phone pic of the inside of the door.
With free spider included
So yep JDM R's had door beams.

Yep 98 spec JDM, going by the date stamps on the most of the parts built in Dec 98 and sold/first registered in Japan the same month. It wasn't sitting on the dealer showroom for long that's for sure. Maybe a build to order as silver wasn't a popular colour in the two door. A yellow(also sold in tiny numbers) JDM one I knew also went from factory to owner in a similar timeframe, while a red JDM I knew had a gap of sex months between build and sale.
It's a pretty substantial bar. About an inch and a half in diameter. BTW I'd not be too surprised to find that some JDM came without the door beams. Having stripped a few for spares and worked on others down the years they can vary in the details and for no obvious reason. EG mine came with the boot/trunk light yet no way to connect it as the loom is different.
