Idle problem
I just bought a 2000 py itr that is stock. whenever I come to a light or something and the cars at a idle it kinda stutters like its missing or something. any idea what this could be? I know its kinda a vague description but I really wish there was a way I could let you guys hear it. runs fine and all but just doesnt feel like its potential. engine kinda shakes a lil also. feels kinda slugish untill like 6000 rpms. just thought maybe one of you fellow itr owners with some experience could help me out. thanx for your help!

I'd imagine a nice little tune-up with a new rotor/cap/plugs and maybe even fresh wires wouldn't be a bad idea.
Depending on the miles it might be time for a timing belt as well, though not unless you've got more than 60K on the odometer.

I put 93 octane and yea I know its prolley due for a tune up. I got some motor flush and some mobile 1 synthetic Im gonna put in it tomorrow. the guy I bought it from didnt do anything to it and really didnt have it too long. Its got around 67,000 miles. It also throws a check engine codes every once in a while. its thrown a 45, and a 10 bit I reset it and it goes away. Im gonna tune it up tomorrow and I already ran a gas treatment thingy in the last full gas tank. Just thought if maybe someone else has had this problem. I think 10 is a IAT sensor, but I know the 45 is too lean or too rich. Just dont understand why a STOCK itr would throw that code.

Check all grounds for corrosion. Believe or not but they make a great differnece. Check the ground on the thermostat housing becuase that's really important also, make sure its snug.

Tune up?
Code 45 is related to fuel, 10 is the IAT sensor. Before you do a tune up that you probably dont need, probe the IAT sensor. No sense in doing a "tune up" if there is no need. HTH...
What he meant was that VTECH doesnt activate until around 6K, hence the sluggish pick up. I hope thats not the "problem".

Then, reset the computer and see if any codes come up and work on it from there.

Mine was doing the same thing, swapped out new cap plugs wires and rotor and it all
now!

ok how do you "probe" the iat sensor? that is the one on the intake manifold right? next to the trottle body?
I just put some motor flush in and changed the oil to 5w30 mobile 1, changed the plugs with the ngk pkr6g-11 ($10 a plug! DAMN). seems to run a lil better. no check engine codes yet. I just went down the road a couple of miles and got all over it and it seems a lil better. still has like a missing sound and idles a lil high. like 1000rpms. I also noticed its spitting a lil oil out where that lil black oil box is on the back of the block. by the oil filter. could that cause this problem? thanx for you guys help man ya are the greatest!

wait wait wait just dont throw parts at it.... find out whats wrong then fix it. compression test leak down test then check it with a scope. check for codes and then fix it. give me a call if you need help jerry sample greenlight auto repair san diego (858)569-0693 or email greenlightauto7853@sbcglobal.net
Hmmm the idleing problem and the oil leaking from the pcv doesn't sound like it was stock. I think I would run a carfax, or try and dig up the real history of the car. Could be that you bought a car that was either nos'd or boosted, which would be a wrongful sale by the owner. Good luck
whats the compression supposed to be? I will check it tomorrow. "check it with a scope"? dont know what that is. what if everytime it throws a code, I see what it is and then reset it and it goes away. then when it does throw a code again its a totally different code? Im like wtf?
the guy I bought it from said he only had it for like 6 months. he was about to be a father and had to get rid of the car. I WILL call him and ask him wtf? the only thing that he knkew of that was done to the car was a clutch was added. the kid really didnt know much about cars in general just liked the itr.
